Job Summary: We are seeking a Vice President of Franchise Development responsible for driving franchise growth across our ~300‑location network. The role reports to the President and oversees franchise development strategy, territory planning, recruitment, real estate, new store openings, and FDD compliance. The VP will also manage the development budget, P&L, and build a high‑performance franchise development team.
Responsibilities
- Growth Strategy & Planning – Owns the three‑ to five‑year franchise development strategy and annual unit‑growth targets; presents strategy and performance to senior leadership; leads market analysis, white‑space mapping, and territory planning.
- Franchisee Recruitment, Qualification & Award – Directs the full funnel from lead generation through store opening, including broker relationships, candidate sourcing, Discovery Day, awards, and opening execution; enforces qualification standards and maintains a data‑driven development process.
- Existing and Multi‑Unit Franchisee Development – Oversees resales, transfers, and acquisition of independent operators; advises owners on future store plans and multi‑unit expansion, succession planning, and ownership transitions.
- Real Estate & Site Strategy – Balances franchisee demand, white‑space opportunity, and ROI; manages turnkey development from site identification to lease negotiation, permitting, construction, merchandising, and opening.
- Franchise Compliance & Disclosure – Partners with Legal to maintain the FDD, franchise registrations, renewals, and FTC compliance; ensures all development practices follow franchise law.
- Team Leadership & Representation – Builds, leads, and develops the franchise development team; sets goals, standards, and accountability; represents the company at industry events and markets.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in business, marketing, real estate, finance, or related field; MBA welcome.
- At least 10 years of progressive franchise development experience, including multi‑unit or area development; at least 5 years leading a function at director level or above.
- Track record of achieving system‑wide unit‑growth targets and managing a development budget or P&L.
- Working knowledge of franchise law and disclosure requirements; experience partnering with legal counsel.
- Strong real estate and site‑selection skills, including trade‑area analysis and lease negotiation.
- Financial acumen in franchise economics and candidate underwriting.
- Strategic planning, analytical, and leadership skills with senior‑level communication ability.
- Willingness to travel up to 60% and ability to work independently.
- Preferred: experience in multi‑unit retail, specialty retail, or services franchising; proven ability to scale a development function.
- Experience with industry groups such as the International Franchise Association is a plus.
- Senior leadership involvement with industry groups is a plus.
