Job description

Are you an accomplished human services leader who has scaled a substantial and successful housing organization?

Boston-based Pine Street Inn partners with individuals experiencing homelessness to help them move from the streets and shelter to a home and assists formerly unhoused individuals in retaining housing. They provide street outreach, emergency services, supportive housing, job training and connections to employment. Pine Street Inn tirelessly advocates for collaborative solutions to end homelessness. Their mission is to end homelessness by making permanent housing a reality for all.

Reporting to the Chief of Programs, the Vice President for Permanent Housing will provide leadership, strategic direction, and planning for Pine Street Inn’s growing portfolio of permanent supportive housing. This leader will ensure the housing programs utilize a person-centered, trauma-informed approach to service delivery and oversee the Housing Compliance, Leasing and Quality Improvement divisions.

The ideal candidate will bring extensive housing, financial, and personnel management experience working with vulnerable populations. They will have successfully led and scaled a substantial human services organization including setting strategy, completing key projects, building partner relationships, and implementing efficient and effective social programs. This highly visible position sits on the Pine Street Inn’s Program leadership team.

Job Responsibilities:
  • Align and lead the work of the Permanent Housing portfolio towards Pine Street’s mission, vision, values, strategic plan and annual program and financial plans.
  • Participate in strategic planning and program development with Senior Directors, peers and leadership team, evaluating performance and identifying improvement opportunities.
  • Achieve short and long-term financial objectives by maximizing resources and investments through effective management, monitoring, and control of program budgets.
  • Support teams through organizational and programmatic change while promoting a high performance and continuous learning environment including developing future leaders.
  • Ensure that operations provides individualized, trauma-informed support to people in housing and maintain a person-centered, supported housing approach to screening and leasing applicants.
  • Develop strong relationships with outside partners, including agencies, local and state officials, and consultants to ensure successful accomplishment of projects and initiatives.
  • Facilitate cooperative and collaborative working relationships with all Pine Street departments and between direct reports and other Pine Street managers.
  • Ensure maximum occupancy in all PSI’s subsidized housing programs while identifying and addressing challenges with subsidized housing utilization.
  • Monitor program performance, using data to inform decisions, made collaboratively with the Department of Strategy & Planning and Quality Improvement.
  • Evaluate and identify any high-risk compliance areas and work with directors and interdepartmentally to develop mitigation strategies.
  • At the direction or in the absence of the Chief of Programs, take on additional responsibility to provide leadership support and coverage across the program portfolio.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Proven management and strategic planning experience within a human service environment, preferably with populations experiencing housing instability.
  • Documented experience scaling affordable housing including property management and residential services.
  • Successful track record leading a large and complex organizational unit.
  • Demonstrated ability to build and manage government and community relationships and contracts.
  • Thrive in a culture that is fast-paced, results-oriented and compassionate towards their guests and residents.
  • Highly developed interpersonal, collaborative management and organizational skills.
  • Hybrid role - requires three days weekly in PSI office or in field.
