OVERVIEW:
Our client is an established, privately held organization seeking an experienced Vice President of Finance to serve as the senior day-to-day finance leader and a close partner to the Chief Executive Officer and executive team.
This individual will oversee the company’s core accounting and financial operations while continuing to strengthen planning, forecasting, reporting, analysis, controls, and decision-support capabilities.
The role is well suited for an experienced Controller, VP of Finance, or senior finance leader who combines strong accounting fundamentals with broader financial planning and commercial analysis experience. The successful candidate will be comfortable operating hands-on, improving processes, developing the Finance team, and building scalable practices that support the organization’s continued growth and development.
RESPONSIBILITY:
- Lead day-to-day Finance and Accounting operations, including general ledger, month-end close, receivables, payables, and financial reporting.
- Own the monthly close process and ensure accurate, timely, and well-supported financial statements in accordance with U.S. GAAP.
- Maintain strong oversight of balance-sheet accounts, operational accounting, reconciliations, reserves, and related financial controls.
- Develop recurring financial analyses that provide greater visibility into profitability, margins, operating performance, and business trends.
- Partner with executive and operating leadership on financial decision support, commercial analysis, and evaluation of business initiatives.
- Lead annual budgeting, recurring forecasting, variance analysis, and forward-looking financial planning.
- Enhance management reporting and establish meaningful financial and operating KPIs to support better business decisions.
- Perform financial modeling and ad hoc analysis related to growth opportunities, profitability, investments, and strategic priorities.
- Maintain oversight of cash flow, liquidity, working capital, and other core financial management activities.
- Strengthen accounting policies, internal controls, close procedures, reporting processes, and supporting documentation.
- Coordinate with external accounting, tax, audit, and other professional service providers as appropriate.
- Lead, mentor, and develop the Finance and Accounting team while improving roles, responsibilities, workflows, and organizational effectiveness.
- Support executive leadership and Board-level discussions through clear financial reporting, analysis, and business insights.
- Help identify and implement improvements to financial systems, processes, reporting tools, and overall Finance infrastructure.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field.
- 10+ years of progressive accounting and finance experience, including meaningful leadership responsibility within a small to mid-sized organization.
- Strong controllership foundation with hands‑on experience across U.S. GAAP, financial reporting, general ledger accounting, month‑end close, and operational accounting.
- Experience working within an operating business environment involving multiple products, services, customers, business lines, or other operational complexity preferred.
- Demonstrated experience with budgeting, forecasting, variance analysis, financial modeling, profitability analysis, and management reporting.
- Strong understanding of balance‑sheet management, reconciliations, reserves, controls, and working‑capital considerations.
- Proven ability to improve financial processes, reporting, controls, and infrastructure within a lean or evolving organization.
- Experience leading and developing accounting and/or finance professionals.
- Strong business judgment with the ability to partner effectively with executive leadership and cross‑functional stakeholders.
- Advanced Excel skills and strong analytical capabilities.
- Hands‑on leadership style with the ability to move comfortably between detailed accounting matters and broader business decisions.
- Executive‑level communication skills with the ability to present financial information clearly and effectively.
- CPA and/or MBA preferred but not required.
- Ability to work effectively within the company’s hybrid executive environment.
