Job description

Brief Description

Over the last 20 years, Lone Star Analysis has built a strong reputation as a trusted provider of predictive and prescriptive analytics in the aerospace & defense market. We have done this by continuously delivering high-value solutions that lead to significant improvements in operational and financial performance for our customers.

Position Overview

The newly established Vice President of Finance will serve as a strategic and operational leader responsible for strengthening financial performance, cash flow, forecasting, compliance, and reporting across a specialized defense contracting business. This individual will report directly to the CEO and partner closely with executive leadership to support customized contract work, government contracting requirements, pricing strategy, treasury management, board reporting, and potential M&A activity. The ideal candidate brings deep experience in defense or government contracting finance, including FAR/DFARS, indirect rate structures, forward pricing, overhead pools, and cash management. The successful candidate will be a hands‑on, business‑minded finance leader who thinks operationally, anticipates risk, and brings structure without slowing the organization down. This person should be comfortable working in an agile environment, capable of moving between strategic Board‑level conversations and detailed contract/cash‑flow problem solving. The role requires a collaborative, direct, and pragmatic leader who can earn trust across finance, operations, ownership, and external stakeholders.

Your Responsibilities Will Include
  • Lead the finance function with accountability for accounting, financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, cash flow, treasury, internal controls, and management reporting.
  • Provide executive‑level financial insight to the CEO, senior leadership team, and Board, including clear reporting on business performance, risks, contract economics, and forward‑looking financial strategy.
  • Oversee defense contracting finance requirements, including FAR, DFARS, cost allowability, indirect rates, forward pricing, rate pools, overhead allocation, and contract profitability.
  • Partner with operations and program leadership to improve project‑level financial visibility, contract execution, bid support, pricing discipline, and margin performance.
  • Strengthen cash forecasting, working capital management, commercial banking relationships, and treasury processes to support business stability and growth.
  • Support M&A activity, diligence, integration planning, and financial stewardship for ownership or parent‑company reporting requirements.
  • Manage financial reporting across domestic and international entities, including coordination with external advisors and accounting firms where multiple accounting standards, currencies, or jurisdictions apply.
  • Develop scalable finance processes, systems, controls, and reporting routines appropriate for a growing, customized‑contract environment.
  • Take responsibility for managing, coaching, and mentoring a team of finance professionals to ensure their professional growth and successful contribution to organizational goals.
Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or a related field; MBA, or equivalent advanced credential preferred.
  • Progressive finance experience in defense contracting, aerospace, government contracting, or another complex contract‑driven environment.
  • Strong working knowledge of FAR, DFARS, indirect cost pools, forward pricing, rate agreements, and government contract compliance.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage forecasting, cash flow, treasury, commercial banking relationships, and working capital in a project‑oriented or contract‑based business.
  • Experience preparing materials for executive leadership, Boards, lenders, or investors.
  • Operational finance orientation with the ability to partner directly with business leaders, solve problems, and translate financial data into practical decisions.
  • Experience with ERP/accounting systems used in government contracting environments; JAMIS experience is a plus.
  • High integrity, sound judgment, self‑starter mindset, and strong interpersonal skills with the ability to navigate client, employee, and team dynamics.
Preferred Experience
  • Finance leadership experience within a small or mid‑sized defense contractor, particularly one with customized engineering, technical, manufacturing, or services contracts.
  • Exposure to foreign‑owned defense contractors, international reporting requirements, foreign exchange, or multi‑entity accounting structures.
  • Experience with DCAA audits, supporting proposals, pricing strategy, and contract negotiations.
