Opportunity

WSP is seeking a Vice President, Electrical Engineer Practice Leader to join our growing Property & Buildings practice in Austin, TX. This leadership role will focus on the delivery of electrical engineering services for a wide range of building projects, including commercial, healthcare, science and technology, data centers, aviation, mission-critical, industrial, civic, and institutional building market sectors.

The successful candidate will serve as a technical leader, trusted client advisor, project executive, and business development champion. This individual will play a key role in expanding WSP's presence in Central Texas while supporting multidisciplinary project teams and fostering a culture of technical excellence and collaboration.

Responsibilities
  • Lead the planning, design, and delivery of electrical building systems for complex new construction and renovation projects.

  • Lead, build and grow the Austin electrical team

  • Serve as Engineer of Record, technical principal, or executive reviewer, as appropriate, and provide technical oversight for complex electrical building systems.

  • Develop and execute a market-facing growth strategy for electrical engineering services in Central Texas, including cultivating client relationships, identifying opportunities, leading strategic pursuits, and expanding services with existing clients.

  • Support business development efforts, including client presentations, pursuit strategies, proposal development, and contract negotiations.
  • Provide executive-level project leadership, ensuring successful delivery related to scope, schedule, quality, and financial performance.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams including mechanical, structural, civil, architecture, and specialty consultants.
  • Build, lead, and develop a high-performing electrical engineering team by establishing clear technical expectations, supporting career development, strengthening succession plans, and fostering collaboration across offices and disciplines.
  • Contribute to strategic planning, resource management, and business operations within the Property & Buildings practice.
  • Support recruiting, workforce planning, and succession planning initiatives.
  • Promote innovation, resilience, sustainability, and best practices in building systems design.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering or Architectural Engineering
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license required.
  • 12+ years of progressive experience in electrical engineering design and project leadership for building projects.
  • Demonstrated experience managing large-scale multidisciplinary building projects.
  • Proven success in business development, client management, and revenue growth.
  • Strong understanding of building electrical systems, including Medium-voltage distribution, Utility coordination, Standby and emergency power, Electrical resilience and redundancy, Renewable energy and electrification, Energy-code compliance, Short-circuit, coordination, and arc-flash studies, Complex renovations and occupied facilities, Construction-phase technical support, applicable codes, and industry standards.
  • Experience leading high-performing engineering teams and mentoring technical staff.
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and relationship-building skills.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience serving as a Project Executive, Discipline Lead, or Practice Leader.
  • Established relationships within the Austin and Texas building design community.
  • Experience supporting commercial, institutional, mixed-use, corporate, municipal, or higher education projects.

Compensation

Expected Salary (all locations): $163,800 - $243,200

WSP USA is providing the compensation range that the company in good faith believes it might pay and offer for this position, based on the successful applicant’s education, experience, knowledge, skills, abilities in addition to internal equity and specific geographic location. WSP USA reserves the right to ultimately pay more or less than the posted range and offer additional benefits and other compensation, depending on circumstances not related to an applicant’s sex or other status protected by local, state, and/or federal law.
