Job summary

Veterans Village of San Diego, INC seeks an experienced Vice President of Development and Communications to lead fundraising and communications campaigns, and estate planning efforts aligned with VVSD’s mission. You will partner with the President & CEO to shape strategy and drive growth in donor support.

You will cultivate foundations, corporate sponsors and major donors, oversee staff, and ensure compelling proposals and successful events.

Qualifications

  • Proven experience raising private funding for nonprofit organizations and managing development personnel.
  • Demonstrated experience with fundraising, proposal writing, special events, donor relations and engaging with private foundations.
  • Excellent writing skills and ability to fluently read, write and communicate in English.

Responsibilities

  • Establish and maintain relationships with community stakeholders to inform strategic decisions and raise funds.
  • Act as liaison between VVSD and public interests.
  • Identify and reach out to potential funders and other stakeholders.
  • Determine staffing needs for development functions and ensure appropriate staff are hired, managed and retained.

  • Lead efforts to attract and retain corporate and foundation grants by identifying opportunities and submitting proposals.

Job Summary

Veterans Village of San Diego partners with America’s Veterans to overcome homelessness and related challenges, creating lives of dignity and fulfillment. The Vice President of Development will spearhead VVSD’s efforts to improve the lives of veterans by the development and implementation of VVSD’s fundraising, marketing and estate planning campaigns.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Establish and maintain relationships with community stakeholders in order to inform of strategic decisions and raise funds in furtherance of our mission.
  • Act as liaison between Veterans Village of San Diego and public interests
  • Actively identify and reach out to potential funders and other stakeholders
  • Determine staffing needs for development functions and ensure that the appropriate staff are hired, managed and retained
  • Coordinate and direct the efforts of volunteers and staff as is related to campaigns and events
  • Lead VVSD’s efforts to attract and retain corporate and foundation grants by identifying relevant opportunities and ensuring that successful proposals are submitted
  • Other duties as assigned by CEO or designee
Qualifications
  • Proven experience raising private funding for nonprofit organizations and managing development personnel, preferably in an organization that faces on military and/or veteran issues.
  • Demonstrated experience with all facets of the role, including: fundraising, proposal writing, special events, donor relations and engaging with private foundations
  • Excellent writing skills
  • Ability to fluently read, write and communicate in English
  • Ability to, both mentally and physically, perform all aspects of job description and other duties as assigned by supervisor
  • Able to work a flexible scheduled to include weekends and evenings
  • Must have own vehicle, valid driver’s license and current vehicle insurance
  • Capable to thrive in a challenging non-profit environment
  • Able to work within a diverse environment
  • Able to interact, professionally, in a wide variety of situations
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to bend and lift light objects
  • Ability to sit for extended periods of time while viewing a computer monitor
  • Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate a computer keyboard
