Job Description

The Vice President of Debt Capital Markets will be responsible for the procurement and execution of new financings for various projects as well as overseeing management Landmark’s existing secured debt portfolio.

Reports to: Senior Director of Debt Capital Markets

Direct Reports: None at the time of hire – Capital Markets Analyst may report to this role in the future

Duties/Responsibilities: The duties listed below are an outline of the role’s responsibilities and should not be considered an all-inclusive list. As the needs of the organization change, these duties may be modified as needed.

  • Lead effort to procure debt financing for Landmark projects, including construction financing for new developments, acquisition financing for acquisitions from third parties, and refinancing of existing portfolio assets. Lenders include regional and money center banks, life insurance companies, debt funds, and Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac.
  • Work with internal Landmark equity capital markets, development, and asset management teams as well as external resources, such as capital advisors, consultants and attorneys, to facilitate underwriting and presentation of an opportunity, develop a strategy for capitalizing the project, oversee lender inquiries, and ultimately negotiate loan term sheets as it relates to procuring debt financing for Landmark projects.
  • Coordinate efforts between Landmark development and asset management teams, Landmark counsel, and lender and lender’s counsel to efficiently manage lender due diligence process, negotiate loan documents, and close financings.
  • Maintain existing lender relationships and participate in seeking to identify new lending partners, including facilitating updates on the student housing sector and Landmark’s platform in order to promote lender interest in Landmark as an organization and Landmark projects.
  • Work with Landmark asset management team to oversee loan portfolio management, addressing loan maturities, interest rate hedge maturities, and other ad hoc loan modification needs.

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Minimum five years of relevant experience

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

  • Experience in commercial real estate finance and/or investment analysis
  • Intermediate Microsoft Office skills; proficiency in MS Excel
  • Strong analytical, communication, and interpersonal skills

Work Environment

  • Travel: Varies; the associate may attend lender and investor property tours both locally and nationwide. When not local, travel will typically be 0-2 trips per month typically 0-2 nights per trip.
