This position is at NY Green Bank, a division of NYSERDA. NY Green Bank is a sustainable infrastructure investment fund and a division of the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA) NY Green Bank is a State-sponsored, specialized financial entity that works with the private sector to increase investments into New York’s clean energy markets, creating a more efficient, reliable and sustainable energy system.

As a green bank, it uses public capital to mobilize private investment to address and alleviate specific gaps and barriers in current clean energy capital markets, with the goal of enabling private investors to expand their sustainable infrastructure portfolios over time.

NY Green Bank’s mission is to work in collaboration with the private sector to animate financing markets through innovative transactions that accelerate clean energy investments, combat climate change, and equitably deliver both economic and environmental benefits to all New Yorkers.

Job Overview

The Vice President will report to the Head of Business Development & Innovation and be responsible for leading NY Green Bank’s (NYGB) efforts to develop new and innovative financial products and solutions that address market barriers in New York’s clean energy markets. These solutions will complement and enhance NYGB’s product offerings – addressing market barriers – with the potential to be replicated and adopted more broadly over time by the private sector investment community. The VP will work closely with NYGB investment and portfolio managers, risk and legal colleagues as well as externally with project developers, sponsors, capital providers, and other stakeholders to develop product innovations and enhancements that address market barriers and drive the financial market transformation outcomes at the core of NYGB’s mission and purpose.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Develops innovative financial products, solutions, and strategies that address market barriers identified by NYGB through market feedback gathered from continuous dialogue with capital providers, developers, sponsors and from stakeholder engagement at NYGB-hosted events and industry conferences.
  • Leads the internal approval process for the development, financial modeling, structuring, launch, and promotion of such new products.
  • Applies established project and real estate finance principles to product innovations to optimize adoption and replication by the private sector investment community.
  • Leverages NYGB’s relationships with existing and prospective borrowers, developers, and sponsors to socialize product innovations and incorporate such feedback to establish confidence that proposed product innovations are adequately addressing identified market barriers.
  • Leads product innovation outreach, promotion, and business development efforts to ensure that anticipated update and demand is achieved post product launch.
  • Stays informed of industry trends, emerging technologies, regulatory shifts, and market barriers through continuous engagement with project developers and sponsors, capital providers, utilities, NYSERDA colleagues, other NYS agencies and authorities, and other market participants.
  • Fosters strong relationships with the broader NYSERDA organization through regular contact and maintains up to date knowledge of programs administered by NYSERDA and other New York entities to identify synergistic opportunities to address market barriers and drive financial market transformation outcomes.
  • Develops, maintains, and fosters new relationships with developers, sponsors, and capital providers. Actively utilizes NYGB’s CRM system to record and track such relations and engagement.
  • Works closely with the Head of Business Development & Innovation to develop annual strategic product innovation plans, cross-functional initiatives, and team/organization goals on a prioritized basis with established goals, objectives, and key results.
  • Oversees work quality and ensures professional development of junior members of the team through coaching, training, and feedback.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree and five years’ clean energy finance work experience.
  • First-hand experience in leading the execution of clean energy project finance transactions.
  • Effective negotiator and persuasive communicator who can creatively structure solutions to complex financing problems, embodying a collaborative approach.
  • Highly organized and capable of managing multiple parallel workstreams under tight deadlines.
  • Proactive, self-directed professional who takes ownership and follows through on obligations.
  • Unwavering professional ethics, discretion, and judgment in handling sensitive issues.
  • Passion for clean energy, sustainability, public service, economic development, and a mission driven organization.
  • Embodies and promotes respect, inclusion, and fairness in all interactions.
  • Strong knowledge of communications, coupled with outstanding verbal and written communication skills with the ability to clearly articulate complex issues to stakeholders, both internally and externally.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s Degree in Business Administration and four years’ related work experience.
  • Knowledge of real estate finance
