Job description

  • Vice President and Chief Information Security Officer
Vice President and Chief Information Security Officer

Cook Children’s Health Care System (Cook Children’s) seeks an experienced, collaborative executive to serve as its next Vice President and Chief Information Security Officer (VP/CISO). This is a unique opportunity to lead cybersecurity efforts at one of the nation’s leading pediatric healthcare systems.

Based in Fort Worth, Texas, Cook Children’s is a $3.2 billion not-for-profit organization that includes a nationally recognized medical center, physician network, surgery center, home health company, health services company, health plan, and health foundation. As a premier, independent, and fully integrated health system dedicated exclusively to the health and well-being of children, Cook Children’s has seen significant growth in the last decade and is in the first steps of a 10-year expansion plan that will add an additional one million square feet of space for pediatric care. With more than 10,000 employees, Cook Children’s has been consistently named one of the top employers to work in the country by Forbes. In 2024, the pediatric hospital was named the number three top employer in 2024 for large employers (5000+ employees) and the top employer in healthcare.

Information security is a key area of focus for Cook’s board and senior executive team. As such, the VP/CISO is a pivotal hire, with extensive visibility across the health system. The VP/CISO will report to the Senior Vice President, Chief Digital Information Officer (SVP/CDIO) and will be a key member of the SVP/CDIO leadership team, providing the strategy and vision to continue the development of a comprehensive information security program. This position will be tasked with the continued elevation of the security program as a highly service-oriented and recognized partner with privacy, legal, compliance, business, and clinical operations. The VP/CISO will also collaborate closely with legal and compliance teams on all HIPAA, contracting, and other complex needs.

The VP/CISO will also be responsible for fostering a culture of security and enhancing educational initiatives. In this capacity, the VP/CISO will play a crucial role in risk mitigation and addressing any potential needs to maintain a secure environment. The VP/CISO will lead the information security group in addition to the networking teams. The VP/CISO will ensure the security strategy aligns with the goals of Cook and the IT organization.

The ideal candidate for the VP/CISO position will be a dynamic executive with a track record of success leading information security, preferably in a complex healthcare setting. The individual will be viewed as a trusted advisor who is genuine, collaborative, and operational focused. This position requires a results driven visible leader with excellent communication skills and the ability to develop relationships at all levels of an organization. The VP/CISO will have the ability to advance a premier information security program and lead change in a growing and transforming health system.
