Job description

We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Vice Dean for Academic Affairs to lead and enhance our educational programs at UW School of Medicine. The ideal candidate will possess extensive experience in medical education, strong leadership and management skills, and a deep understanding of current trends in academic medicine. They should be adept at building effective partnerships, maintaining accreditation standards, and driving continuous improvement in educational programs. This role requires a visionary leader who can align educational goals with the unique healthcare needs of the WWAMI region and across the nation.

Responsibilities:

Lead continuous improvement for UW School of Medicine’s educational programs.
Maintain active affiliation agreements and effective working relationships.
Ensure Liaison Committee on Medical Education accreditation.
Advise on resources needed for medical student education programs.
Supervise Associate and Assistant Deans.
Oversee admissions policies and curriculum development.
Work closely with Vice Dean for Rural and Regional Affairs.
Oversee activities of the Office of Student Affairs and the Colleges.
Manage human resources and budgetary processes.
Collaborate with other Vice Deans to support education and professional degree programs.
Represent the Executive Vice Dean in meetings as needed.
Faculty Appointment:

Full-time or part-time position with a faculty appointment in a relevant UWSOM department.
Administrative role is 0.80 FTE, not eligible for tenure.
12-month service period position starting Summer 2025.
Compensation:

Base salary range: $250,000 - $500,004 per year, commensurate with experience and qualifications.
Additional compensation may include administrative salary supplement and allowances.
Location:

Based at the Seattle campus with travel across the WWAMI region.

Education Requirements:

Requires a Medical Doctor or Doctor of Osteopathy degree (or foreign equivalents) with graduate training and board certification in a medical or surgical specialty by the American Board of Medical Specialties. The physician must meet the requirements for a full and unrestricted medical license in Washington state and must meet the requirements for appointment to the faculty.

Work Experience Requirements:

A minimum of ten years of progressively responsible related experiences is preferred, of which five years should be senior supervisory and/or management experience as an administrator responsible for medical student educational programs. The individual must have extensive working knowledge of medical education at the medical student level. Prior experience and involvement with the WWAMI program is preferred.
