Job summary

University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS) seeks a visionary Vice Chair for Research in the Department of Ophthalmology and Director of Research for the Jones Eye Institute. The role drives growth of basic science and clinical research, aligns priorities with Vision 2029, and builds partnerships with Arkansas Children’s Hospital and the Central Arkansas Veterans Healthcare System.

Qualifications

PhD or MD/PhD in vision science or a related field (required).
Demonstrated leadership and comms skills with a record of mentorship and academic accomplishments.
Experience securing NIH and other grant funding and building research programs.

Responsibilities

Grow and expand basic science and clinical research programs.
Recruit and retain outstanding faculty and foster collaboration across UAMS and partners.
Oversee budgets, compliance with grant, legislative, and institutional guidelines.
Develop partnerships with clinical researchers for translational research linking basic science to practice.
Ensure delivery of education and research training to medical and graduate students.
