Vibration Analyst - Marathon St. Paul Park Refinery

Job Summary: Marathon St. Paul Park Refinery is seeking a Vibration Engineer to join our team. This role is responsible for monitoring vibration levels of rotating equipment, analyzing data, and reporting findings to ensure optimal equipment reliability. The Vibration Analyst will work closely with Operations and Maintenance teams to diagnose vibration-related issues and establish repair/replacement scopes. As a degreed engineer, the Vibration Analyst will also have the opportunity to apply engineering principles to assess equipment performance and recommend improvements. This may include optimizing rotating equipment design, enhancing reliability strategies, and implementing predictive maintenance solutions based on vibration analysis findings. The role requires a strong understanding of machinery diagnostics, condition monitoring techniques, and collaboration with cross-functional teams to drive continuous improvement in equipment performance.

The position operates on a Monday-Thursday, 4/10 schedule and will be required to be on-call for two weeks per year.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Collect and analyze vibration data for refinery equipment, including centrifugal and reciprocating compressors, turbines, blowers, pumps, gearboxes, and motors.
  • Establish and maintain equipment monitoring plans, control limits, and vibration databases.
  • Collect baseline data on newly installed or repaired equipment during startup.
  • Assist in troubleshooting rotating equipment issues using vibration analysis and predictive maintenance techniques.
  • Work with Reliability Engineers and Maintenance teams to assess and recommend rotating equipment improvements based on vibration analysis findings.
  • Develop and implement reliability strategies to optimize equipment performance and minimize downtime.
  • Specify and configure vibration monitoring systems, including transmitters, probes, accelerometers, and associated hardware.
  • Ensure compliance with mechanical integrity tasks based on defined intervals.
  • Collaborate with Operations, Maintenance, and Engineering personnel to identify and resolve equipment reliability issues.
  • Report equipment deficiencies in a CMMS program (such as SAP) and support Operations and Maintenance in prioritizing repairs.
  • Develop detailed reports on monitored equipment, trends, and recommendations, communicating findings to management and key stakeholders.

Education, Experience, and Skills: Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelors degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology, or Electrical/Electronics Technology.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in vibration analysis.
  • ISO Category II Vibration Analysis Certification (or equivalent Vibration Institute training).
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook.
  • Ability to wear appropriate PPE, including a respirator.
  • Ability to physically perform fieldwork and pass a hair drug test and physical exam.
  • Possession of a valid driver’s license.
  • Ability to obtain a TWIC Card.
  • Legally authorized to work in the U.S. without the need for future visa sponsorship.
  • Travel requirement: Less than 5%.
  • Work Schedule: Monday-Thursday, 4/10s with occasional weekend call outs and on-call duty two weeks per year.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • ISO Category III Vibration Analysis Certification.
  • Experience with predictive maintenance technologies, including oil analysis, ultrasound, thermography, and emissions monitoring.
  • Experience using Emerson 2140 Analyzer and MHM (or similar) for vibration analysis.
  • Experience with Windrock Analyzer (PV Analysis).
  • Familiarity with CMMS/SAP systems.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
