BlockReel is seeking an enthusiastic VFX Assistant to support an upcoming independent feature film shot mainly in Los Angeles, CA. You’ll assist the lead VFX Artist with rotoscoping, basic compositing, cleanup (rig removal), and shot tracking while gaining practical feature-film experience over a 3–4 week window.

Requirements include foundational VFX knowledge, a proactive attitude, and the ability to provide a reel or portfolio.

Qualifications

• Prior experience with VFX software is a plus, but strong foundational knowledge is essential.
• Ability to learn quickly and adapt to early post-production tasks.

Production dates are approximate, targeting late November or early December 2026 for principal photography. This is a suspenseful sci-fi thriller exploring themes of identity and perception, featuring practical effects enhanced by strategic visual effects. We're a passionate, small production company looking for someone eager to learn and contribute to a compelling story. Your primary responsibilities will include assisting our lead VFX Artist with rotoscoping, basic compositing tasks, cleanup work (e.g., rig removal), asset organization, and shot tracking. You’ll be involved in the early stages of post-production, potentially for about 3-4 weeks, depending on the complexity of the shots. Requirements: Prior experience with VFX software (e.g., Nuke, After Effects, DaVinci Resolve Fusion) is a plus, but strong foundational knowledge of image manipulation and a keen eye for detail are essential. You should be proactive, adaptable, and a quick learner. Please provide a brief reel or portfolio showcasing any relevant work, even if it's personal projects or student films. Reliable transportation to our post-production facility in LA is necessary. This position offers deferred compensation, with meals and craft services provided during workdays.
