Yorkshire Animal Hospital has served pets and their owners in Affton, Crestwood, Webster Groves, and surrounding communities since 1956. We continue to upgrade our diagnostic equipment, including ultrasound and dental x-ray capabilities, to provide the best care. As we grow, we aim to implement advanced diagnostic and treatment protocols to enhance the quality of care for companion animals.

Role Overview

The Veterinary Technician assists veterinarians and other staff with patient care, monitors hospitalized pets, manages inventory, prepares prescriptions, performs routine lab work, educates clients, and assists with surgeries.

Responsibilities
  • Assist veterinarians with medical and surgical tasks.
  • Gather patient histories, vital signs, and weights during outpatient exams and educate clients.
  • Prepare patients for surgery, monitor vital signs, and obtain laboratory samples.
  • Take and develop radiographs following safety protocols.
  • Handle and restrain animals appropriately.
  • Administer medications, vaccines, and treatments as directed.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of exam and lab areas, restock supplies, and ensure equipment is functional.
  • Provide compassionate care and professional communication with clients and team members.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.
Requirements
  • Ability to work weekends as needed.
  • Previous veterinary experience preferred.
  • Ability to lift up to 25 pounds independently; more with assistance.
  • Follow OSHA safety practices, including proper PPE use.
  • Basic math skills for medication calculations.
  • Proficiency with computers and MS Office.
  • Strong communication skills for ensuring patient safety.
