Job summary

Absecon Veterinary Hospital in Absecon, NJ, is seeking a Veterinary Technician for urgent care to triage patients, place IV catheters, start fluids, draw blood, run diagnostics, and assist with emergencies. Our team of 14 doctors and 90 staff provide primary care, urgent care and surgery.

This full-time role offers 4x10 hour shifts, weekend/holiday rotations, sign-on bonus, shift differentials, and a comprehensive benefits package including medical/dental/vision after 90 days, 401(k) match, CE

Absecon Veterinary Hospital is an independently, family-owned practice with about 14 doctors and 90 team members. We’re AAHA Accredited, Fear Free certified, Cat Friendly Gold certified and we offer primary care, urgent care, and surgery. We’re looking for veterinary technicians to join our urgent care team!

What you’ll do:

• Triage patients as they arrive and work with the doctor and team on who needs to be seen first
• Place IV catheters, start fluids, draw blood, and run diagnostics
• Monitor and stabilize sick patients and assist with emergencies, including CPR and procedures
• Give treatments and medications as directed
• Keep clients updated while the doctor works up their pet
• Keep accurate records and keep the treatment area stocked and ready

What we’re looking for:

• Emergency, urgent care, or critical care experience is preferred. We also hire technicians newer to urgent care, who shadow a buddy for their first 30 days.

Schedule: Urgent Care schedules are generally four 10-hour shifts per week. Weekend and holiday rotations are required. Hospital open hours are 8AM to 10PM, and we have overnight nursing for hospitalized cases.

Training & Continuing Education:

• You spend your first 30 days shadowing a partner on the floor to learn how to navigate our PIMS, hospital policies, and get comfortable within the practice. After that we add responsibilities a step at a time. We review how it's going at 30, 60, and 90 days, check in every six months, and do a full review each year.
• Our leveling system runs from Technician Assistant 1 to Technician 3. Each level has skills sheets and study guides, so you know what to show to move up.
• VetMEDucate brings trainers into the hospital and pairs them with team members working on specific skills. If you're preparing for the VTNE, we have study resources for that. We also run internal courses, like sedation training, and RECOVER CPR training twice a year.
• After your first year, full-time team members get a yearly CE allowance: $350 for assistants and technicians who aren't credentialed, $1,500 for CVTs, and $2,000 for VTS. Full-time team members can also apply for tuition reimbursement of up to $1,000 a year.

Pay and Benefits:

• Pay is $19 to $35 per hour, depending on credentials, experience, and level.
• Sign on bonus available.
• Shift differentials available for hours between 8PM to 8AM, and Level 2 technicians receive weekend daytime shift differential.

Full-time team members (30 or more hours a week) receive:

• Medical, dental, and vision coverage after 90 days. AVH contributes $300 a month toward medical.
• 40 hours of sick leave, as well as accrued earned time off. You can start using it after 90 days.
• A 401(k) after 12 months, with a match: 100% of the first 3% you contribute, and 50% of the next 2%
• Time and a half for hours worked on New Year's Day, Memorial Day, July 4th, Labor Day, Thanksgiving, Christmas Day, & Christmas/New Years Eves after 4pm
• Overtime at time and a half after 40 hours
• A $165 annual scrub allowance - the hospital provides your first sets of scrubs as needed for average shifts worked
• Up to 50% off care for your own pets

Essential Functions:

• Must be able to ambulate/move 90% of time
• Must be able to move supplies and patients up to 50 pounds
• Must be able to use Fear-Free techniques to restrain patients
• Must have the ability to work in a hospital setting, which includes:

Exposure to potential caustic agents, medical grade radiation, and cleaning products

Exposure to zoonotic diseases and wounds potentially inflicted by patients

Exposure to moderate to loud noises (such as barking)
