Job summary

Job description

Philadelphia Animal Specialty and Emergency (PASE) is seeking a dedicated Technician Trainer to join our team! PASE is a privately-owned 24/7 Emergency and Specialty hospital located in the heart of Philadelphia. This role is central to building a strong foundation for our technical staff, ensuring every technician and assistant has the skills, confidence, and support needed to deliver excellent patient care.

The Technician Trainer will split their time between hands-on clinical work (75%) and training and administrative responsibilities (25%), reporting to the Technician Manager. This is an ideal role for a credentialed technician who is passionate about mentorship and education and wants to shape the next generation of veterinary technicians while still remaining active on the floor.

PASE is one of the best-staffed veterinary hospitals in Philadelphia and the surrounding areas, with boarded specialists in Critical Care, Radiology, Neurology, Internal Medicine, Surgery, and Oncology in addition to our robust ER team. We prioritize education, offering a range of in-house training for our support staff and CE lectures for our referring community.

Our facility is equipped with two surgical suites, a dedicated imaging room, Olympus scopes, CT, 1.5T MRI, ultrasound (Aplio i700), digital radiology, in-house lab equipment, emergency ultrasound, and multi-parameter anesthetic monitoring equipment. We are proud of our strong reputation with referring veterinarians and foster a positive, supportive workplace culture for our dedicated team of doctors, technical staff, and management.

Responsibilities:

Provide direct, hands-on patient care as an active member of the technical team (approximately 75% of role).
Design, deliver, and continuously improve onboarding and skills training for new technicians and assistants.
Develop and lead ongoing continuing education and skills refreshers for existing technical staff.
Assess technician competencies and identify individual and department-wide training needs.
Partner with the Technician Manager to align training priorities with departmental and hospital goals.
Serve as a hands-on mentor and resource for technicians and assistants on the floor, reinforcing best practices in real time.
Maintain training records, competency checklists, and documentation to track staff development progress.
Support the development of training materials, SOPs, and skills assessment tools.
Foster an environment of respect, trust, and mutual support among all members of the healthcare team.

Credentialed Veterinary Technician (RVT/LVT/CVT); Veterinary Technician Specialist (VTS) certification strongly preferred
Prior experience training, mentoring, or precepting veterinary technicians or assistants
Strong clinical skills across a broad range of emergency and specialty procedures
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to teach and give constructive feedback effectively
Highly organized, with experience maintaining training documentation and competency tracking
Positive attitude, patience, and a collaborative mindset
Reports to the Technician Manager
