Job summary

Salt Lake County is seeking an entry-level Vet Assistant to support the veterinarian and experienced technicians in daily duties for sick or injured animals. The role sets the pace and tone of the surgical team, promoting efficiency and high standards of care.

A self-starter who can think critically and collaborate with the team is ideal. The candidate will assist with treatments, nursing care, diagnostics, and routine tasks, while maintaining medical records and following safety procedures.

Qualifications

• Six months as Vet Assistant or two years as Vet Tech or equivalent education/experience.
• Must pass a verified negative drug test before starting.
• Subject to random alcohol and drug testing; may be tested post-accident or on reasonable suspicion.

Responsibilities

• Monitor animal health and report changes to the veterinarian.
• Provide treatment and administer medications; care for shelter animals.
• Maintain clean, stocked clinic areas and supplies.
• Verify vaccination, microchip, and spay/neuter status prior to adoption.
• Assist in surgical prep, anesthesia, and instrument sterilization.
• Maintain medical records and handle controlled substances per policy.
