Job description

We have a great opportunity for a Veterinary Technician/ Study Tech Surgery at our Greenfield, Indiana Animal Research Lab. The ideal candidate is a Veterinary Technician or Veterinary Nurse, with RVT preferred but not required. In this role, you will perform basic veterinary wellness, laboratory, and surgery procedures related to research studies on a variety of animals, including but not limited to:

  1. Performs aseptic surgical preparation and anesthesia on multiple species.
  2. Assists with daily rounds, monitors animals in vivarium, and assists or performs surgical procedures.
  3. Performs physical examinations and treatments as deemed necessary by clinical veterinarians.
  4. Provides environmental and social enrichment to laboratory animals.
  5. Maintains and monitors reports and records, including animal health records, activity reports, and enrichment logs.
  6. Performs general physical exams, laboratory testing, and dental cleanings on multiple species.
  7. Performs basic dosing, bleeding techniques, and restraint procedures on multiple species.
  8. Ensures studies are conducted according to protocol, SOPs, and government regulations.
  9. Assists or performs surgical procedures.
  10. Manages time and resources effectively, including equipment, rooms, feed, environmental requirements, and supplies.
  11. Applies good research practice (GRP) principles.
  12. Reports animal care concerns and participates in resolution and corrective actions when necessary.
  13. Performs data reviews with minimal QC findings and understands QA audits.
  14. Maintains client confidentiality at all times.
  15. Requires occasional weekend coverage.

Education/Skills/Experience
  1. AS in Veterinary Technology or BS in Animal Science, Biology, or related field. Equivalent education and experience may be considered.
  2. Highly preferred but not required: 2+ years of small and large animal research experience.
  3. Highly preferred but not required: 2+ years of experience with administering or assisting with anesthesia.
  4. Highly preferred but not required: 2+ years assisting or performing small and large animal examinations.
