Job summary

Sacramento County is seeking a Registered Veterinary Technician to assist veterinarians in surgeries and provide comprehensive animal health care at the County Animal Shelter.

The position requires a California RVT license and at least six months of hands-on experience assisting veterinarians in a hospital or shelter setting, with duties spanning pre-op prep, anesthesia monitoring, and post-op care.

Qualifications

• Registration as a Registered Veterinary Technician by the California Board of Examiners in Veterinary Medicine.
• Six months of experience assisting a licensed veterinarian in providing medical treatment to animals.
• Proof of requirements must be submitted with the application.

Responsibilities

• Assist veterinarian in surgeries and animal health care tasks.
• Prepare animals for surgery and monitor post-surgery care.
• Sterilize equipment and manage surgical packs.
• Read, interpret and apply rules governing animal care and quarantine.
• Maintain written records using a computer.
