Veterinary Technician - Surgery

Heart of Texas

Round Rock, TX

Full-time: 4 day, 10 hour shift. On-call required

Compensation is negotiable based on experience and credentials, with an expected starting range of $23.50-26/hour. The actual pay will carefully consider a wide range of factors including your skills, qualifications, experience, and location.

About You

You’ll support safe anesthesia and surgical care from intake through recovery—communicating with pet parents, performing venipuncture/catheter placement, calculating medications, and closely monitoring patients before, during, and after procedures. You bring working knowledge of anesthetics, surgical procedures, diagnostic imaging, and lab techniques, and you stay calm and focused in fast‑paced or stressful situations.

Your Experience & Skills
  • 3+ years of recent veterinary technician experience required
  • Surgical experience in a veterinary setting required
  • Comfortable supporting anesthesia and perioperative patient monitoring (pre-, intra-, and post‑op)
  • Proficient in venipuncture and IV catheter placement
  • Strong medical math skills (accurate dosage and fluid calculations)
  • Clear, compassionate communication with pet parents and the care team
  • High school diploma or GED
  • Licensed Veterinary Technician (LVT/RVT/CVT) preferred
  • Willing to work weekends, evenings, and holidays
Role Responsibilities
  • Assist with surgical procedures and support safe patient flow from intake through recovery
  • Prepare patients for anesthesia/surgery (pre‑op checks, clip/scrub/positioning as needed)
  • Perform venipuncture and IV catheter placement; collect and handle samples per protocol
  • Calculate and administer medications/fluids accurately using medical math
  • Monitor patients under anesthesia and communicate changes promptly (vitals, depth, ventilation/perfusion, pain)
  • Provide anesthesia recovery and post‑operative care, including comfort measures and ongoing monitoring
  • Communicate with pet parents regarding patient status and discharge/post‑op instructions as directed
  • Stay calm, focused, and team‑oriented in fast‑paced or stressful situations
