Job description

BluePearl Pet Hospital in Rockville, MD, is seeking a passionate Surgery Veterinary Technician to join our exceptional team!

Schedule: Weekday shifts + rotating weekend on-call

Pay: $24.00 - $49.50 / hour + competitive shift differentials

This pay band is dependent on experience and advancement through our competency assessment tool. Candidates with VTS credentialing are eligible for compensation commensurate with experience.

As a Surgery Veterinary Technician, you will:

  • Assist in patient procedures using knowledge of anesthesia and analgesia related protocols and procedures, including formulating anesthetic plans tailored to individual patient needs.
  • Monitor anesthesia, trouble shoot anesthetic complications, and make appropriate interventions .
  • Intravenous catheter placement, endotracheal intubation, and anesthetic equipment use and maintenance .
  • Perform physical exam; accurately counts heart, pulse rate, capillary refill time, mucous membranes, temperature, respiratory rate and effort.
  • Understand normal vital parameters and alerts doctor when abnormal.
  • Set up intravenous fluids and CRI's.
  • Continuous expansion of knowledge and skillset: advanced anesthetic skills including epidurals, difficult airway intubation, and critical case management.
  • Operate all brands of intravenous fluid pumps and can troubleshoot errors.
  • Comfortable with medical math .
  • Ability to take patient through entire procedure from start to finish (pre-op, monitoring, post-op, and recovery)
  • Manage appointments, obtain histories, medical record keeping, invoicing, patient discharges, etc.
  • Disconnect and connect patients from intravenous fluids aseptically.
  • Monitor patient response to fluid therapy including signs of overload.

Our Continuing Education Plan includes $500/year reimbursement for CVT and $750/year for VTS. The Continuing Education allowance can roll over up to $1,500 for CVT and VTS associates. Non-Credentialed, full-time Paraprofessionals are eligible for an annual CE stipend of $150. Full-time CVT associates also receive 8 hours of CE paid hours each year. Full-time VTS associates receive 12 hours of CE paid each year. Paid CE hours can be carried over year to year up to a maximum of 24 hours. Newly hired associates will receive a pro-rated amount of any CE benefit for which they are eligible.
