Job Description

Exciting Opportunity at MSK: TheResearch Animal Resource Center (RARC)is a component of the Center of Comparative Medicine and Pathology. We provide staff and facilities to affect the humane care and use of animals used in research and instructing at MSKCC. We are currently seeking aVeterinary Technicianwho will provide health care to laboratory animals maintained at MSKCC and occasionally WCMC by evaluating cases and implementing treatment in consultation with the veterinary staff. Role Overview:

  • Conduct rounds and coordinate animal assessments to ensure compliance with health and well-being standards.
  • Evaluate and assess common disease conditions, reporting any concerns.
  • Coordinate clinical treatments, collect diagnostic and environmental samples, and facilitate euthanasia when necessary.
  • Perform or assist with routine quarantine procedures for primates, dogs, cats, farm animals, and rodents.
  • Participate in the rodent sentinel health surveillance program.
  • Prepare and prioritize the operating room for procedures, including sterilization of surgical instruments and supplies.
  • Assist and coordinate with veterinarians and investigators in surgical procedures.
  • Lead the Veterinary Services pharmacy, including dispensing supplies, medications, and controlled substances to investigators.

Key Qualifications:

  • Certified Vocational Training in Veterinary Science, Veterinary Technology, or Animal Health Science
  • AALAS certification at a minimum of the Assistant Laboratory Animal Technician (ALAT) level is strongly preferred.

Core Skills:

  • Familiarity with various monitoring modalities and anesthesia equipment.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Suite.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.

Additional Information:

  • Location: 417 East 68th St. (Zuckerman)
  • Schedule: Monday to Friday; 9am - 5pm. Rotating weekends.
  • Reporting to Manager, Veterinary Services

Pay Range: $26.21-$39.24
