BluePearl Pet Hospital is hiring an extraordinary Veterinary Technician to work in our Oncology department and also in Radiology Ultrasounds!
Pay: $22.00 - $44.00 / hour
This pay band is a starting point and depends on experience and advancement through the CareerTrax leveling system.
A BluePearl Technician is self-motivated, a quick thinker, and able to multi-task efficiently. Good communication skills and compassion are essential. Preferably, candidates have a minimum of two or more years' experience in a specialty veterinary hospital. The right candidate will treat and monitor patients, support clinicians with patient care, and communicate effectively with clients.
Responsibilities include:
- Perform physical exams; accurately assess heart rate, pulse, capillary refill time, mucous membranes, temperature, respiratory rate and effort.
- Understand normal vital and lab parameters and alert the doctor to abnormalities.
- Prepare and restrain patients for ultrasounds.
- Monitor patients during anesthesia or sedation.
- Perform phlebotomy.
- Place peripheral intravenous catheters in the cephalic vein.
- Calculate basic medical math.
- Set up materials for chemotherapy administration.
- Safely dispense and administer oral chemotherapy agents.
- Safely dispense, reconstitute, and administer SC/IM chemotherapy agents.
- Check chemotherapy calculations and dosages.
- Properly shave and wrap for IV catheter placement for chemotherapy infusion.
- Understand chemotherapy extravasation and procedures if it occurs.
- Obtain thorough histories from oncology patients, including medications, responses, and side effects.
- Discharge oncology patients, providing client education on handling medications and side effects at home.
- Maintain knowledge of veterinary medical terms and communicate effectively with veterinary professionals.
- Address client concerns professionally during visits and calls.
- Understand tumor types and diagnostic work-up protocols specific to oncology.
- Assist with anesthesia/monitoring for ASA I or II classified patients.
- Remain current on R.E.C.O.V.E.R CPR guidelines and perform assigned roles proficiently.
- Maintain hospital operations, including stocking and cleaning.
