Job summary

Veterinary Care & Specialty Group (VCSG) in Chattanooga is seeking a Veterinary Technician to join our Radiation Oncology Department, where board-certified specialists and a compassionate team deliver advanced cancer care.

The ideal candidate has at least 2 years in veterinary settings, skills in venipuncture, anesthesia monitoring, drug calculations, and a commitment to patient advocacy. We offer training and ongoing education in a supportive environment.

Qualifications

  • At least 2 years of experience in a veterinary setting, preferably oncology or specialty.
  • Skilled in venipuncture, IV catheter placement, anesthesia monitoring and drug calculations.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork with a compassionate approach.

Responsibilities

  • Assist Radiation Oncologist with exams, diagnostics and radiation treatments.
  • Monitor patients for cardiac/respiratory risk and initiate CPR if needed.
  • Perform patient assessments and communicate with owners about care plans.
  • Handle diagnostics including MRI/CT and collect samples for labs.
  • Provide compassionate care, detailed record-keeping, and collaborative support.

Who We Are Looking For

We are looking for a Veterinary Technician to work in our Radiation Oncology Department. Our board-certified Radiation Oncologists care for patients with a variety of oncological conditions using state-of-the-art advanced imaging and radiation treatment techniques. Technicians and assistants within the department are vital to the wellbeing of our patients, coordinating with specialists and staff across all specialties and providing the highest standard of nursing care. Our ideal candidate has experience in specialty veterinary medicine with keen attention to detail and an exemplary ability to manage multiple tasks at once.

What You Can Expect To Do
  • Assist Board-Certified Radiation Oncologist: Use your skills to assist our board-certified Radiation Oncologists with exams, diagnostic procedures, and radiation treatments.
  • Patient Interventions & CPR: You'll be monitoring patients at risk for cardiac and respiratory arrest and will initiate CPR as needed.
  • Patient Monitoring/Record Keeping: You'll be performing patient assessments using various monitoring techniques and communicating with pet owners about their pet's history and at-home care.
  • Diagnostics: You'll be hands-on using various diagnostics, including MRI, CT, and radiology. You will also be obtaining and handling patient samples for in-house and reference lab testing
  • Patient Monitoring: Oncology patients require intensive monitoring before, during, and after procedures. Your role will be to provide compassionate care and support, ensuring patients' safety and comfort while keeping detailed records.
  • Collaboration: Collaborate with our amazing team to deliver comprehensive care and have a blast while doing it!
  • Patient Advocacy: Advocate for the well-being and comfort of patients from the moment they arrive until they are discharged.
Qualifications Required
  • At least 2 years of experience in a veterinary setting, with a preference for oncology or specialty practice.
  • Skilled in venipuncture, IV catheter placement, anesthesia monitoring, drug calculations, and other technical skills.
  • Strong medical math skills and experience with drug calculations.
  • Attention to detail, must be thorough in your work, with a focus on accuracy, especially in critical moments
  • Excellent communication and people skills.
  • Thrives in a fast-paced environment and can juggle multiple tasks.
  • Compassionate, detail-oriented, and a team player.
  • Must be able to lift 40 lbs

Preferred - Licensed Veterinary Technician (LVT) or equivalent certification
