Job summary

MSPCA-Angell in Centerville seeks a Veterinary Assistant or Certified Veterinary Technician to assist with procedures for homeless animals at our Cape Adoption Center and with owned patients from our low-cost community clinic. The role offers a consistent schedule and opportunities to impact underserved communities.

Applicants should have at least one year of relevant experience; technicians must be certified, and anesthesia monitoring experience is encouraged.

Qualifications

• 1 year of experience as a Veterinary Assistant or Veterinary Technician.
• If applying for the technician position, certification is required.
• Experience in anesthesia monitoring is strongly encouraged.
• Spanish proficiency is strongly encouraged.

Responsibilities

• Assist staff veterinarian with procedures and treatments for homeless animals awaiting adoption.
• Support examination, vaccination and medical testing of incoming animals.
• Monitor surgeries including spays/neuters and dentals for animals awaiting adoption and clinic patients.
• Provide care with a focus on lifesaving treatment and community outreach.

Full-time 40 hours per week position, Monday - Friday. Sign on bonus for CVTs!

The hourly pay rate will be determined based on skill level. Assistant level pay rates range from $20.00 - $30.00 per hour. Certified Technician level pay rates range from $24.00 - $32.00 per hour with a $5,000 sign-on bonus! Please note that candidates with additional experience or credentials may be eligible for compensation aligned with their qualifications.

The Position

We are looking for a Veterinary Assistant or Certified Veterinary Technician to assist with procedures for homeless animals at our adoption center and with owned patients from our low-cost community clinic.

Duties include

Assisting staff veterinarian with procedures and treatments required to ensure and maintain the health of homeless animals awaiting adoption. This position assists our veterinary team and shelter staff with the examination, vaccination and medical testing of incoming animals. This position also includes surgical monitoring for spays/neuters, dentals, and other surgical procedures for animals awaiting adoption and for animals seen through our community clinic for low income clients. We see an average of 125 owned patients a month and the position offers exposure to a diversity of surgical and medical cases rarely seen in private practice.

Applicant Requirements

We are looking for applicants with at least one year of experience as a veterinary assistant or veterinary technician. If applying for the technician position, you must be certified. Any applicants with experience in anesthesia monitoring are strongly encouraged to apply.
