Job summary

Wendell Animal Hospital is looking for a veterinary assistant/technician to support clinical teams and care for pets. You will engage with clients, triage patients, and help with diagnostic testing including radiographs and lab work.

Responsibilities include assisting in surgeries, monitoring patients, line placement, injections, and medication dispensing. This on-site role offers growth opportunities within a collaborative veterinary team.

Qualifications

  • Experience assisting in a veterinary setting is preferred.
  • Ability to communicate clearly with clients and team members.
  • Comfort with handling sick animals and exposure to clinical environments.
  • Proficiency with computer systems and record-keeping.

Responsibilities

  • Communicate with clients and gather patient information.
  • Triaging patients, assess basic injuries/illness, record vital signs.
  • Perform diagnostic testing including radiographs and basic lab work.
  • Assist veterinarians in surgeries and patient monitoring.
  • Place IV catheters and assist with injections.
  • Dispense medications and manage controlled substances.

As a member of the Wendell Vet team, you will gain exposure to various animals and encounter diverse conditions, enhancing your expertise in animal care. You will play a crucial role in promoting the well-being of the animals in your community, collaborating with a dedicated team who shares your enthusiasm. Duties
  • Client communication
  • Triaging patients including basic injury/illness assessment, gathering patient information, and taking vital signs.
  • Performing diagnostic testing including radiographs and lab work
  • Assisting with surgical procedures and patient monitoring
  • Assisting in taking radiographs
  • Giving IV & IM injections
  • Dispensing controlled drugs
  • Placing IV catheters and maintaining feeding tubes and urinary catheters
  • Monitor Surgical procedures.
  • Lab Diagnostics
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
Required Skills/Abilities
  • Ability to work with or around sick animals, potentially hazardous materials, cleaning chemicals, gas anesthetics, and unpleasant odors.
  • Ability to always communicate professionally and effectively and maintain professionalism in emotionally charged / challenging situations.
  • Ability to provide high quality customer service.
  • Ability to work effectively as a member of a team.
  • Ability to work effectively with computers and electronics.
Requirements
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to lift patients up to 40lbs throughout the workday with or without reasonable accommodations.
  • Ability to stand for extended periods of time.
  • Ability to frequently lift, walk, bend, twist, reach, push and squat
Education And Experience
  • At least one year of veterinary experience as an assistant or technician preferred.
