Job summary

Haw River Animal Hospital is seeking a veterinary assistant/technician to join a collaborative team committed to animal welfare. You will work with animals, perform triage, client communication, diagnostic testing, and assist with surgeries and patient monitoring to support high-quality care.

Experience is valued with at least one year in a vet setting; RVT preferred but not required. We offer a strong benefits package and opportunities for professional growth in a supportive environment.

Qualifications

  • RVT preferred but not required.
  • Ability to lift up to 40 lbs and stand for extended periods.

Responsibilities

  • Client communication and triage of patients with vital signs.
  • Perform radiographs, lab work, and basic diagnostic testing.
  • Assist with surgical procedures and patient monitoring.
  • Dispense medications and place IV catheters as needed.
  • Maintain equipment and ensure a clean, safe clinical environment.

Duties
  • Client communication
  • Triaging patients including basic injury/illness assessment, gathering patient information, and taking vital signs.
  • Performing diagnostic testing including radiographs and lab work
  • Assisting with surgical procedures and patient monitoring
  • Assisting in taking radiographs
  • Giving IV & IM injections
  • Dispensing controlled drugs
  • Placing IV catheters and maintaining feeding tubes and urinary catheters
  • Monitor Surgical procedures.
  • Lab Diagnostics
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
Required Skills/Abilities
  • Ability to work with or around sick animals, potentially hazardous materials, cleaning chemicals, gas anesthetics, and unpleasant odors.
  • Ability to always communicate professionally and effectively and maintain professionalism in emotionally charged / challenging situations.
  • Ability to provide high quality customer service.
  • Ability to work effectively as a member of a team.
  • Ability to work effectively with computers and electronics.
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to lift patients up to 40lbs throughout the workday with or without reasonable accommodations.
  • Ability to stand for extended periods of time.
  • Ability to frequently lift, walk, bend, twist, reach, push and squat
Education and Experience
  • At least one year of veterinary experience as an assistant or technician preferred.
  • RVT preferred but not required
