Job summary

Haw River Animal Hospital in Pittsboro, NC is seeking a dedicated veterinary assistant to join our team. You will help care for a variety of animals, assist with daily duties, and support the veterinary staff in a fast-paced clinic.

The ideal candidate embraces a strong work ethic, takes responsibility, communicates professionally, and strives to improve processes while providing excellent customer service to pet owners.

Qualifications

  • Ability to work with or around sick animals, potentially hazardous materials, cleaning chemicals, gas anesthetics, and unpleasant odors.
  • Ability to always communicate professionally and effectively and maintain professionalism in emotionally charged / challenging situations.
  • Ability to provide high quality customer service embodying a yes culture for clients.
  • Ability to work effectively with computers, software, and electronics.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Physical ability to handle and restrain animals

Responsibilities

  • Feeding and watering animals as directed
  • Appropriately medicating pets
  • Minimal front desk duties
  • Occasional animal restraint
  • Following laundry procedures
  • Keeping facility floors and yards clean
  • Ensuring proper pet identification is in place.
  • Documenting care appropriately
  • Following safety procedures
  • Keeping runs and cages clean throughout the shift.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Duties/Responsibilities

Requirements
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to stand for extended periods of time.
  • Ability to lift, walk, bend, twist, reach, push and squat most of the workday.
  • The ability to frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 40 pounds with or without accommodation.
