Job summary

CityVet Alamo Heights is seeking an experienced Veterinary Technician Lead who can mentor staff, optimize patient care, and support veterinarians. The role focuses on improving efficiency, handling surgical activities, and guiding technicians and assistants to CityVet's standards.

The ideal candidate has at least 2 years in veterinary medicine, with surgical experience preferred, and strong communication. This role emphasizes leadership and teamwork within a busy clinic setting.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in veterinary medicine.
  • Surgical experience is preferred.
  • Ability to handle and restrain various dog breeds.
  • Strong communication and multi-tasking skills.
  • Self-motivated and team-oriented.
  • High energy and empathetic under stress.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure QC and accuracy of VT work, case notes, and lab results.
  • Assist with staff scheduling and surgery rotation schedules.
  • Maintain surgical skill set.
  • Inventory, order and maintain medical supplies.
  • Interview, train and develop new Veterinary Technicians and Technician Assistants to CityVet's standards.
  • Work with Practice Manager and Lead Veterinarian to resolve customer complaints and arrive at appropriate resolutions.
  • Support the Veterinarian and maintain a positive relationship with staff.
  • Assist the Client Service Specialist team when needed.

CityVet - Alamo Heights is looking for an experienced Veterinary Technician with great leadership skills, is self-motivated, and is a great technical trainer. Compensation is based on experience and education.

Responsibilities

The Veterinary Technician (VT) Lead is responsible for maintaining excellent patient care and operational productivity by helping the Veterinarian leverage their time and efforts to meet the needs of their clients and patients. The Veterinary Technician (VT) Lead works to relieve the Veterinarian from technical work and administrative detail to achieve greater levels of efficiency in daily practice. Veterinary Technician (VT) Leads help facilitate and streamline communication from the operating room to the front office staff and most importantly, the client.

A day in the life:
  • Ensures the Quality Compliance (QC) and accuracy of all Veterinary Technician (VT) work, including case notes and chart records, proper processing and entering of lab results, and identifies any discrepancies and works with the team to solidify a solution and correction
  • Assists with the development and execution of the Veterinary Technician (VT) staff schedule and surgery rotation schedule
  • Maintains surgical skill set and abilities
  • Inventory, order and maintain adequate medical supplies in the facility
  • Interview, train and develop new Veterinary Technicians (VT) and Technician Assistants (TA) to CityVet's standards
  • Work with Practice Manager and Partner/Lead Veterinarian to resolve customer complaints and arrive at appropriate resolutions
  • Support the Veterinarian as needed and maintain a positive and cooperative relationship with other facility staff
  • Assist the Client Service Specialist team when needed
Essential qualifications:
  • A minimum of 2 years of experience in the veterinary medicine industry is required
  • Surgical experience is preferred
  • Knowledge and ability to properly handle and restrain various dog breeds
  • Strong communication skills
  • Multi-tasking ability, with strong attention to detail
  • Frequent standing, bending, walking, lifting, carrying, and reaching
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Self-motivated & team-oriented
  • High energy and fun-loving approach to life
  • Ability to remain calm and empathetic in stressful/emergency situations
  • Exudes confidence and decisiveness while practicing
