Qualifications

• Certified Veterinary Technician (LVT, RVT, or CVT) with a minimum of 1 year of experience.
• Must be 21 years of age or older.
• Valid driver’s license.
• Proficiency in field immobilizations and related procedures.
• Experience working with exotic and native species.

Responsibilities

• Field immobilizations.
• The daily upkeep and cleaning of the veterinary hospital.
• Record keeping and filing.
• Running fecal parasite checks.
• Manual WBC counts and differentials.
• Placing IV catheters and running IV fluids.
• Blood collection using the vacutainer system.
• Filling prescriptions.
• Following DVM/Tech orders.
• Intubation and anesthesia support.
• Neonatal care.
• Wrapping packs and sterilization.
• Working closely with staff and volunteers, lifting up to 50 lbs (and sometimes more).
• Operating in varying hot or cold weather conditions.

Stipend/Housing: A $400/month stipend for expenses and free onsite housing in a shared living environment is mandatory during the internship. Transportation to and from the training area will be provided if required.

Selected candidates must provide proof of a negative TB test conducted within 30 days of arrival at Fossil Rim and proof of rabies vaccination (or adequate protective titer) within the year prior to starting the internship. This will be at your own expense.

Background check will be conducted prior to arrival. Fossil Rim is a drug‑free workplace and a drug screen will take place the week prior to your internship.

International students must have a J1 or B1 visa before arrival. Fossil Rim will not sponsor or assist with the visa process.
