ARISE is a 24-hour veterinary emergency and critical care (AVECCC) and specialty hospital in Queen Creek, AZ. You will join a team of doctors to deliver high‑quality medical and nursing care to companion animals.

The Internal Medicine Technician role supports the Internal Medicine department with IV placement, anesthesia monitoring, diagnostic testing, client communication and precise recordkeeping. A clear path from Technician Assistant to senior roles is available.

Internal Medicine Technicians will likely work four 10-hour shifts during the weekdays. Start dates will be staggered depending on availability for training.

Job Purpose: The purpose of the Veterinary Technician is to providehigh qualitymedical support and nursing care to companion animal patients. The Veterinary Techniciansassistwithin the Internal Medicine department. All teams are under the direction of the doctor on staff. The doctor is the lead, and will be prioritizing patients, directing the team and is the ultimate decision maker for all medical treatments.

Duties & Responsibilities:

Technical Duties

• Proficient IV catheter placement
• Use andmaintainIV pumps
• Understands and carries out written and oral directions
• Proficient andaccuratedrug calculations and administration
• Quality nursing and husbandry care of patients
• Strong working knowledge of veterinary procedures and pharmacology
• Perform in-hospital lab testing and prepare specimens for outside labs, as needed when lab tech is not available. Report diagnostic testing results to veterinarians
• Perform and/orparticipatein all other diagnostics such as radiology, ultrasound, ECG,BP,and glucose monitoring
• Assistveterinarians in outpatient exams by taking histories, vital signs and weights as well as providing client education
• Providenursing care for in-hospital patients including all DVM requested treatments,diagnostics,and medications
• Accurately and completely record all treatments
• Conduct pre-admission exams and discharge patients
• Perform client callbacks as necessary
• Maintain legally defensible medical records in cooperation with veterinarians
• Actively engages in Rounds
• Rounds delivered/received at shift changes, anytime a staff member comes on shift or leaves a shift
• Rounds will be complete,detailed,andrelativetopatient & client care
• Monitor anesthesiautilizingequipment such as pulse oximeter and electrocardiogram
• Prepare patients for surgery including pre-op medications, induction/intubation,and surgery preparations
• Assistveterinarian through surgery andmonitorpatients through anesthesia recovery
• Effectively communicate treatment and costs to owners and collect signatures and/or verbal consent forms and treatment plans

Housekeeping Duties

• Maintain cleanliness of treatmentareaand exams rooms for all surfaces, including lights, tables, cabinets,wallsand floors
• Keep areas stocked with necessities
• Maintain equipment cleanliness and longevity by vacuuming pet hair from keyboards,wheelsand equipment
• Clean cages,providefresh bedding regularly andsanitizethe cages between patients
• Discard sharps appropriately and exchange for empty containers when necessary

Administrative Duties

• Log controlled drugs
• Know how to use the inventory module in our veterinary practice-management software
• Restock shelves and drawers in exam rooms and treatment area
• Follow OSHA requirements
• Follow practice’s health and safety protocols
• Be proficient in using our veterinary practice-management software (EzyVet,SmartFlow, Timeless)
• Assist Client Administrators as necessary
• Attending staff and individual meetings as scheduled

Client Services

• Answer incoming phone calls; respond withappropriate information; encourage patient exam/evaluation
• Greet incoming clients/patients;facilitate medical record paperwork/computer entry
• Create estimates for services as requested by the doctor
• Admit/discharge patients
• Collaborate withpDVMs
