Job description

BluePearl Pet Hospital in Skokie, IL is looking for a Veterinary Technician to join our team!

Position: Emergency Veterinary Technician (CVT licensing not required) with our ICU department.

Work Schedule: Full Time; Night Shift

Pay Range APCAI/CVTII: $23.20 - $38.80/hour

*This pay band depends on local veterinary licensing, experience, and advancement through our competency assessment tool.

As an ICU Veterinary Technician, you will:

  1. Induce, monitor, and recover anesthesia in patients and use anesthesia/monitoring equipment.
  2. Have a complete understanding of normal ranges of patient vital signs, including but not limited to heart and respiratory rate, temperature, blood pressure, and oxygen saturation.
  3. Obtain and interpret blood pressure and other vital signs and alert Veterinarian to changes and issues.
  4. Identify patients at risk for arrest and initiate CPR.
  5. Properly calculate medical math (including constant rate infusions) and administer medications via appropriate routes and duration.
  6. Be proficient at performing phlebotomy and placing intravenous catheters in all peripheral vessels.

Additional responsibilities include:

  • Place and maintain feeding tubes and central line catheters.
  • Mentor and train other co-workers.
  • Address client concerns with patience and empathy.
