Job summary

The Arizona Humane Society's Sunnyslope Public Clinic is hiring a Veterinary Technician II to join our dedicated team. This full-time role offers four 10-hour shifts, with potential Saturdays, supporting veterinarians in a low-cost clinic serving the community.

You will perform perioperative care, lab work, injections, anesthesia monitoring, and client education, ensuring compassionate treatment for dogs and cats.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Completion of a veterinary technician program and certification preferred.
• Minimum of 2 years’ experience in a veterinary clinic or hospital required.
• Expertise in phlebotomy, immunology, parasitology, endocrinology and pharmacology required.
• Proficient in anesthesiology.

Responsibilities

• Assist veterinarians in all aspects of care for owned animals.
• Support SPO wellness including prepping for surgery, anesthesia monitoring, and patient recovery.
• Perform laboratory diagnostics, restraining/handling, vaccine knowledge, fluid therapy, and medication administration.
• Provide client education and maintain clinic asepsis.
• Administer injections (IV, IM, SQ) as directed by the Veterinarian.
• Intubate animals, place IV catheters, venipuncture and administer fluids as needed.
• Monitor vital signs of sedated and anesthetized patients throughout perioperative phases.
• Administer microchips and fill prescriptions.
• Stay current in emergency drugs and protocols.
• Communicate effectively with the public and staff.
• Explain vaccine protocols and anesthetic risks to clients.
• Prepare home-care instructions and receipts for services.
• Fill prescriptions from veterinarian orders.
