Veterinary Technician II - Diagnostics, Animal Resource Center

Job Description
  • Assist the ARC veterinary staff in providing research and healthcare support for various species.
  • Work independently in the animal facility without direct supervision.
  • Perform physical examinations under the supervision of ARC veterinarians.
  • Maintain animal health and study records as required by IACUC and ARC policies.
  • Administer and monitor anesthesia in small to mid-sized animals.
  • Perform minor surgical procedures and assist with major surgeries.
  • Conduct routine diagnostic tests using laboratory equipment.
  • Work in microbiological barrier facilities and containment areas (ABSL-2 and ABSL-3).
  • Obtain blood samples from research animals.
  • Perform antigen injections and sample collections for antibody production.
  • Expose and develop radiographs for various species.
  • Maintain accurate medical records.
  • Assist in surveillance of research protocols.
  • Participate in mandated training (MRI, Radiation Safety, Blood Borne Pathogens).
  • Guide and train staff and investigators in animal handling, restraint, anatomy, and procedures.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • Knowledge of veterinary equipment and procedures.
  • Accuracy in preparing materials, calculations, and record-keeping.
  • Good judgment in applying policies and procedures.
  • Ability to handle animal odors and contact with potentially diseased animals.
  • Exposure to hazardous biological materials.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
Working Conditions
  • Primarily in laboratory settings.
