Veterinary Technician – Intensive Care Unit (ICU)

ICU Overview:

The purpose of an ICU is to have critical patients that require intensive care in one organized area, enabling close monitoring and high-level care. Our ICU includes critical patients and those at risk of decompensation, requiring vigilant observation. It is open to all services, so patients from various departments are cared for here.

We are hiring exceptional Veterinary Technicians to join our growing ICU team. Ideal candidates enjoy caring for the sickest patients, pay close attention to detail, and wish to enhance their critical care nursing skills. ICU nurses work closely with ICU doctors, sharing responsibility for patient recovery. The role involves mastering ICU-specific skills, which will be taught on the job, and maintaining an organized, clean work environment.

ICU Technician Skills and Procedures:
  • Nasogastric tube placement
  • Urinary catheter placement (male and female)
  • Central line placement
  • Single and double lumen PICC lines
  • Triple lumen jugular catheters
  • Arterial puncture for blood gas analysis
  • Arterial catheter placement and care
  • Thoracic auscultation
  • Perfusion analysis
  • Electrolyte and blood gas analysis
  • CPR
  • Mechanical ventilator patient care
  • Care of patients with tracheostomies, chest tubes, abdominal drains, and feeding tubes
  • Calculating CRIs (analgesics, inotropes, vasopressors, electrolytes)

Experience & Skills Requirements:
  • RVT preferred

Overnight and weekend shifts include an additional $3-$5/hour differential. Benefits include:
