We are seeking a compassionate Veterinary Technician I (Orthopedic Surgery) to join our team and assist in the treatment of small animals admitted to our hospital. In this position, you will support veterinary staff and help to maintain a sanitary and well-organized service within the Veterinary Medical Teaching Hospital.
Opportunities to Contribute
Support Orthopedic Veterinarians: Collaborate closely with orthopedic veterinarians to ensure smooth and efficient surgical procedures and recovery for orthopedic patients.

Maintain a Sanitary and Well-Organized Hospital: Keep the hospital environment sanitary, well-stocked, and efficiently organized to ensure smooth hospital operations.
Minimum Qualifications
Associate’s degree in veterinary technology, biomedical science, animal science or a related area, or any equivalent combination of relevant education and experience.
Persons in this position should possess basic computer skills, knowledge of veterinary hospital equipment, and the ability to multitask and work well with others. They should understand medical math, canine and feline anatomy/physiology, and be able to appropriately handle and restrain animals using fear-free and/or feline-friendly methods. Effective, professional, and positive communication with all individuals, including internal and external customers/clients, is essential.
The well-qualified candidate will also possess: a bachelor's degree in veterinary technology, biomedical science, animal science, or a related area; at least one year of experience in a veterinary medical setting; and a certification as a Licensed Veterinary Technician (LVT).
What you need to know
Salary: Starting at $19.11/hour, with compensation commensurate to experience.
Schedule: Monday through Friday, 8am - 5pm, with some holiday coverage required.

Responsibilities include:
Orthopedic Responsibilities: Prepare patients for aseptic surgery, serve as a scrub nurse during orthopedic procedures (including arthroscopies, TPLOs, and fracture repairs), assist with scheduling surgeries, and communicate with hospital staff, clients, and referring veterinarians. Ensure equipment availability, support anesthesia, and assist clinicians, residents, and students with bandaging, radiographs, sedation, and examinations.
Clinical Responsibilities: Instruct and supervise students, monitor patients, provide restraint, collect samples, assist with diagnostics, administer treatments, place IV catheters, support surgical services, and assist other services as needed.
Teaching and Research: Participate in technical training, record keeping, and data management, and assist with training veterinary assistants and students.
Anesthesia Responsibilities: Maintain anesthesia and analgesia, perform IV catheterization, monitor physiological data, assist in recoveries, and recognize and treat complications.
Work Environment Maintenance: Keep the hospital environment sanitary, restock supplies, sterilize equipment, and maintain tools.
Training and Compliance: Stay current with safety, rabies, radiation safety, infection control, and aseptic techniques. Ensure accurate hospital billing and assist with accreditation processes.
