Qualifications

Veterinary Technician I - Overnight Bottle Baby ICU

The Arizona Humane Society is looking for a dedicated full-time Bottle Baby ICU Technician to provide overnight care for neonatal kittens at our state-of-the-art Rob and Melani Walton Papago Park Campus. Location: Papago Park Campus

Schedule: Full Time, 4 – 10 hours shifts/nights

Reports To: Shelter Medical Manager

Supervises: N/A

Work-Life Balance (THREE DAYS OFF!)

Shift Differential

The overnight Bottle Baby ICU technician is subject to a 10% shift differential for working outside of normal business hours.

A Day in the Life:

As a Bottle Baby ICU Technician you will provide care and treatment for neonatal kittens. Bottle feed kittens, track feeding and care activities, and ensure kittens are kept warm and thriving. You will also guide and lead volunteers who are assisting in the care of neonatal kittens. Duties will include caring for other animals at the shelter and related duties as assigned in off seasons or slower intake periods.

Job Requirements:

  • High school diploma/ GED
  • Completion of a Veterinary Technician program or a minimum of 6 months of experience in a veterinary hospital.
  • Must have experience feeding kittens and puppies.
  • Must love kittens and demonstrate safe and humane handling while caring for them.
  • Self-starter who can perform and make a positive impact without direct supervision.
  • Be an effective communicator who interacts professionally with volunteers, hospital staff, and shelter personnel.
  • Answer emergency phone calls from fosters and provide assistance.
  • Must follow departmental procedures for euthanasia, including administration of drugs.
  • Proficient with Windows computer systems. Able to learn programs such as Chameleon (software used with animals in a shelter environment and enter information accurately and completely).

Physical Demands/Work Environment:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk, sit, use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools or controls, reach with hands and arms, climb stairs, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl, talk or hear, taste or smell. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. There will be exposure to dust, heat, cold and temperature changes; occasional wet floors, and animal noises, odors and dander. Most time will be spent in a typical air conditioned and heated office environment.
