Job summary

Smith Veterinary Hospital in Santa Fe, NM is seeking a Veterinary Technician to provide end-to-end care across general and urgent services. You will support veterinarians during exams and procedures, perform lab testing and radiography, assist with anesthesia, and educate clients on care plans.

The role requires 1+ year of technician experience; RVT preferred. Competitive schedule includes 4x10 shifts with starting pay negotiated by experience; strong teamwork and client service are essential.

Qualifications

• 1+ year veterinary technician experience required
• RVT preferred
• Knowledge of anesthesia, radiology, laboratory procedures, and patient nursing care
• Strong communication, organization, and client service skills
• Collaborative, proactive, and able to work in a fast-paced hospital environment

Responsibilities

• Provide compassionate patient care, including histories, vital signs, restraints, and monitoring hospitalized patients.
• Assist veterinarians during examinations, treatments, procedures, and patient care.
• Triage support and urgent/same-day patient intake.
• Administer medications, vaccines, IV fluids, and other care as directed.
• Collect lab samples, perform testing, radiographs, and record results.
• Place and maintain IV catheters and support patient nursing care.
• Assist with dental procedures, radiographs, cleanings, and charting.
• Prepare patients, instruments, and surgical packs for procedures.
• Assist with anesthesia induction, monitoring, recovery, and hospital protocols.
• Educate clients on medications, preventive care, and discharge instructions.
• Maintain cleanliness and disinfection of exam rooms and equipment.
• Follow OSHA and infection-control protocols.
• Communicate effectively with veterinarians and staff.
• Contribute to a positive, collaborative work environment.
• Complete other tasks as assigned.
