“My professional fulfillment stems from the unique insights I offer students into career paths in veterinary technology. I enjoy providing them with opportunities to learn new skills, understand hospital workflows, and enhance communication with clients and teams. Ultimately, the knowledge that I’m contributing to the advancement of veterinary medicine and the recognition I receive for my efforts further enhance my satisfaction in working with students.
“Externships are crucial as they offer a safe space for externs to bridge the gap between classroom learning and real-world application. They are a platform for individuals to develop the practical skillsets necessary to become proficient nurses and technicians, preparing them more effectively for their future careers.
“My passion lies in nurturing the next generation of veterinary professionals, as it is a gateway to ignite future interest in veterinary technology. By providing externs with opportunities to develop essential communication skills and navigate team dynamics, we empower them to excel in their roles. Moreover, by welcoming more veterinary professionals through externships, we can introduce fresh perspectives and innovative concepts that advance our field’s recognition and ensure title protection.”

“At Androscoggin Animal Hospital, I was provided with the support of the hospital to not only practice the skills that I developed during my veterinary technician bachelor’s degree but to learn new ones as well, such as the use of butterfly catheters for blood draws, surgical experience, and handling exotics for exams and radiographs. The externship allowed me to grow more confident in my knowledge to help not only patients but clients as well. Since that time, I’ve joined the Androscoggin team as an LVT where I’m still learning every day from the more advanced LVTs and DVMs, especially for emergency events.”
“I loved that the whole team, from CSRs to assistants, technicians, and DVMs, were all willing to enthusiastically teach and involve me in cases, making sure I was available to see interesting cases or have interesting things saved for me to talk about later.”
Together we are building a community of hospitals united by clinical excellence.
