Gulf Coast Veterinary Specialists (GCVS) is seeking an experienced Emergency Veterinary Technician to join our 24/7 ER team in Houston. The role focuses on triage, lifesaving care, and close collaboration with vets to manage critical patients.

Qualifications

  • Two years of veterinary experience encouraged to apply.
  • Emergency or Critical Care experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Provide advanced nursing care and monitoring for hospitalized patients, including administering medications, treatments, fluid therapy, and ongoing assessments.
  • Deliver compassionate client support by providing timely updates and helping pet owners understand the condition, treatment plan, and prognosis.
  • Maintain thorough medical records of observations, treatments, diagnostics, medications, and patient status.
  • Collaborate with veterinarians and staff to develop and implement patient care plans and communicate critical changes.
  • Maintain hospital areas and equipment to ensure high-quality patient care throughout hospitalization.

Compensation
  • Non-Credentialed Technicians: $19 - $30/hr.
  • Credentialed Veterinary Technicians: $21- $34/hr.
  • Veterinary Technician Specialists: $35 - $40/hr.
  • $3/hr. Weekend differential
  • $2/hr. Overnight differential (Past 6pm)

Job Description

The Emergency Veterinary Technician’s primary responsibility is to triage patients as they present to the Emergency Room according to triage levels. Assess pets and provide immediate lifesaving care under the direction of the ER doctor as required for critical patients. Provides history, vitals, and concerns to doctors to assist in the timely and appropriate management of emergency patients. Works with technicians and assistants to perform diagnostics, execute a treatment plan and/or hospitalize the patient.

Responsibilities
  • Provide advanced nursing care and monitoring for hospitalized patients, including administering medications, treatments, fluid therapy, and ongoing assessments to ensure optimal patient comfort and recovery.
  • Deliver compassionate client support and communication by providing timely updates, answering questions, and helping pet owners understand their pet’s condition, treatment plan, and prognosis during what can often be a stressful and emotional time.
  • Maintain thorough and accurate medical records, documenting patient observations, treatments, diagnostics, medication administration, and changes in patient status to ensure continuity of care and compliance with hospital protocols.
  • Collaborate closely with veterinarians, specialists, and support staff to develop and implement patient care plans, communicate critical changes in patient condition, and provide exceptional, team-oriented care for every patient.
  • Support a high standard of patient care and hospital operations by maintaining treatment areas, preparing and managing medical equipment, and ensuring hospitalized patients receive attentive, compassionate care throughout their stay.
Qualifications
  • Licensed Veterinary Technician (LVT) preferred
  • Experienced Veterinary Technicians/Assistants with a minimum of two years of veterinary experience are encouraged to apply.
  • Emergency or Critical Care experience preferred.
  • Strong technical skills including venipuncture, catheter placement, medication administration, and patient monitoring.
  • Knowledge of anesthesia monitoring, radiology safety, and fluid therapy.
  • Excellent communication, teamwork, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced emergency environment.
  • Fluent English speaking and reading skills required; multilingual candidates are encouraged to apply.
