Job summary

Saint Francis Veterinary Specialists in Decatur, GA is seeking an Overnight Veterinary Technician for ER/ICU coverage. The role is part-time with rotating weekends, offering a meaningful chance to impact patient outcomes in a fast-paced hospital.

You will support veterinarians, assist with surgeries, and help manage patient flow while delivering compassionate care in a community-focused setting.

Qualifications

  • 1-2 years of clinical experience
  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree from an AVMA-accredited veterinary technology program preferred
  • Licensure as a veterinary technician preferred but not required

Responsibilities

  • Provide end-to-end care for patients, from admission to discharge
  • Facilitate outpatient treatments and perform laboratory tests
  • Assist with surgeries and procedures according to state Act
  • Educate clients about pet health, Thrive Membership options and medications
  • Maintain comprehensive medical records and ensure clean, sterile treatment areas

You’ll play an important role in pets’ lives by providing end-to-end care for our precious patients. Your life-changing work will range from the hands-on care of facilitating outpatient treatments and performing laboratory tests, to support services including admitting and discharging patients.

Your Experience & Skills
  • Veterinary technician licensure is preferred but not required.
  • 1-2 years of clinical experience
  • An Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree from an AVMA-accredited veterinary technology program preferred; or the equivalent combination of education, training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.

You’re Willing and Able To
  • Support veterinarians to ensure quality veterinary care, advocate for pets, and educate clients.
  • Assist veterinarians and the medical team to maximize productivity and maintain positive patient flow.
  • Assist with surgeries and procedures in accordance with your state's Veterinary Practice Act outlined for credentialed veterinary technicians.
  • Communicate with clients about individualized pet health concerns and offer guidance on Thrive Membership options, medications, and additional treatments.
  • Assist in maintaining relevant, comprehensive medical records with the support of practice systems.
  • Obtain relevant health history and information from clients and maintain medical charts.
  • Use safe restraining techniques, follow standard protocols, and sustain clean, sterile, organized treatment areas, exam rooms, and labs.
  • Be willing to guide, mentor, and support fellow team members.
