Job summary

Metropolitan Veterinary Specialist and Emergency Services (MVSES) in Jeffersontown, Louisville, KY, seeks an ER Veterinary Technician or Assistant to deliver rapid, high‑level nursing care for critical patients. You will manage triage, diagnostics, anesthesia monitoring, and client communication in a fast-paced emergency setting.

You’ll work with a collaborative team, benefiting from mentorship and advanced equipment, including MRI/CT/ultrasound, with a strong focus on compassionate patient care.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 2 years of relevant clinical veterinary experience (Required).
  • Licensed Veterinary Technician / LVT (Preferred).
  • Prior emergency or specialty medicine experience (Preferred).
  • Coachable, driven, and passionate about patient advocacy and client care.

Responsibilities

  • Triage and assess emergency patients; obtain thorough histories.
  • Place catheters, central lines, NG tubes, arterial lines; monitor patients.
  • Administer SC, IM, IV injections; dispense medications; perform medical math.
  • Perform in-house lab work and radiographs; ensure safety protocols.
  • Provide patient monitoring, restraint, wound care, and client updates.
  • Utilize EzyVet and Vet Radar to manage triage, treatments, and discharges.
  • Deliver empathetic discharge education to clients.

Job Summary & Responsibilities

As an ER Veterinary Technician or Assistant, you are the vital link providing rapid, skilled nursing care. You will manage critical patients, run diagnostics, administer treatments, monitor anesthesia, and elevate the client experience.

  • Triage & Assessment: Assess patient stability, recognize emergency intervention needs, and obtain thorough histories.
  • Technical Nursing: Place peripheral IV catheters, central lines, nasogastric tubes, sampling catheters, and arterial lines.
  • Medications & Fluids: Administer SC, IM, and IV injections; dispense oral medications; master medical math.
  • Diagnostics: Perform in-house lab testing (bloodwork, urinalysis, fecal) and capture digital radiographs using proper safety protocols.
  • Patient Care: Practice safe patient restraint, monitor vitals, manage wound care, and recognize subtle signs of pain or distress.
  • Workflow & Tech: Utilize EzyVet and Vet Radar systems to seamlessly manage triage, treatments, and discharges.
  • Client Bond: Provide empathetic, clear patient updates and discharge education to clients.
Qualifications & Skills

Schedule & Shift Differentials

Enjoy predictable, set schedules consisting of four 10-hour shifts or a 3-on/4-off alternating rotation. Some holidays are required.

Our Currently Available Shifts Include
  • 2nd Shift: 3:00 PM – 1:00 AM
  • 3rd Shift: 10:00 PM – 8:00 AM
Boost Your Base Pay With Our Hourly Differentials
  • +$3.00/hr | Saturday & Sunday Day Shift (6:00 AM – 6:00 PM)
  • +$4.00/hr | Evening Shift (6:00 PM – 12:00 AM)
  • +$5.00/hr | Overnight Shift (12:00 AM – 6:00 AM)
  • Call-in stipends and holiday pay are also provided.
