Job summary

Thrive Pet Healthcare Specialists Albuquerque is seeking an experienced Veterinary Technician – Emergency to join our weekend day team. You will triage and support emergency patients, assist veterinarians in critical procedures, and operate radiography, ultrasound, and in-house labs to deliver timely care.

• RVT or equivalent with emergency/critical care experience.
• Strong anesthesia, venipuncture, and patient monitoring skills.
• Ability to stay calm, focused and compassionate in high-pressure situations.
• Excellent communication with clients and team members.
• Flexibility to work Friday–Sunday day shifts, 12-hour shifts.
• Passion for animal welfare and continuous learning.

Responsibilities

• Triage emergency patients and relay critical information to the veterinary team.
• Assist veterinarians in emergency procedures such as wound repair, fluid therapy, and anesthesia monitoring.
• Operate and maintain diagnostic equipment (digital radiography, in-house labs, ultrasound).
• Administer medications, place IV catheters, perform blood draws with precision.
• Monitor hospitalized patients, document changes and alert the team promptly.
• Provide compassionate client communication during stressful situations.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and stocked treatment area.

Schedule: 8am-8pm Friday-Sunday

Compensation is negotiable based on experience and credentials, with an expected starting range of $24-$28/hour The final pay will carefully consider a wide range of factors including your skills, qualifications, experience, and location.

About You

As a Veterinary Technician on our weekend day team, you’ll be the steady, skilled hands and calm voice that help pets and their families through emergencies. From stabilizing critical patients to assisting in life‑saving procedures, your work will directly influence outcomes and bring comfort in moments of crisis.

What You'll Do

• Triage incoming emergency patients and communicate critical information to the veterinary team.
• Assist veterinarians in emergency procedures such as wound repair, fluid therapy, and anesthesia monitoring.
• Operate and maintain diagnostic equipment (digital radiography, in-house lab analyzers, ultrasound).
• Administer medications, place IV catheters, and perform blood draws with precision and care.
• Monitor hospitalized patients, documenting changes and alerting the medical team promptly.
• Provide compassionate client communication during stressful situations.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and fully stocked treatment area.

What You'll Bring

• Registered Veterinary Technician (RVT) or equivalent experience in emergency/critical care.
• Strong technical skills in anesthesia, venipuncture, and patient monitoring.
• Ability to remain calm, focused, and compassionate in high-pressure situations.
• Excellent communication skills with both clients and team members.
• Flexibility to work Friday, Saturday and Sunday day shifts consistently 12 hours per shift.
