Job summary

Ethos Veterinary Health is hiring a Vet Tech for the ECC department in San Diego. The role includes triaging patients, assisting with diagnostics, anesthesia, and hospitalized patient care. You will collaborate with DVMs across assessments, treatments, and procedures while maintaining compassionate client communication.

Qualified candidates hold a CA RVT license or VACSP and have 2–3 years in a progressive hospital; ECC experience is a plus. Availability for holidays is required.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Triaging incoming patients and managing clients throughout visits.
• Partner with DVMs in patient assessment, diagnostics, treatments, and procedures.
• Obtain and process lab samples (blood, urine, fluids, FNAs).
• Utilize imaging modalities for patient assessment.
• Provide hourly management of treatments for hospitalized patients.
• Assist with sedation and anesthesia events; monitor and recover.
• Phlebotomy and IV catheter placement for canine and feline patients.

About the Job:

As a Vet Tech in the ECC department you will be responsible for:

• Collecting samples, placing IV catheters, prepare IV fluids and additives
• Administering medication
• Measuring blood pressure
• Must be able to prioritize procedures and delegate tasks. Triage emergencies, prepare and present estimates, admit patients to the hospital, discharge patients.
• Assist in preparing diagnostics including radiographs and labwork
• Work in a fast-paced, collaborative environment
• Demonstrate compassion in all levels of patient care

Pay Range:

• Veterinary Assistant: $24 - $35 per hour
• Registered Veterinary Technician (RVT): $28.00 - $40.00 per hour
• Veterinary Technician Specialist (VTS): $35.00 - $48.00 per hour

Additional differential for overnight shifts:

Compensation is negotiable based on education, experience, and credentialing.

This position offers the opportunity for growth within our emergency and specialty services, with the flexibility of you being able to decide your schedule based on shift availability using our online scheduling program.

Job Duties may include:

• Triaging incoming patients and managing clients throughout their visit
• Partnering with DVM's in patient assessment, diagnostics, treatments, and procedures
• Obtaining and processing laboratory samples such as blood, urine, free fluid, and fine needle aspirates.
• Utilizing different modalities of imaging for patient assessment
• Hourly management of treatments for hospitalized patients
• Executing, monitoring, and recovering assigned sedation and anesthetic events
• Phlebotomy and IV catheter placement in canine and feline patients that are stable or compromised

About You:

• Minimum 2-3 years working in a progressive hospital (1 yr in ECC/Specialty a plus)
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills a must
• The ability to prioritize and adapt to a fast paced, fluid environment.
• Possess a good overall knowledge of disease processes, medical math, anesthesia, and pharmacology
• Current CA RVT license or VACSP required
• Must be available to work at least 1-2 holidays or company events per year
