South Side Animal Hospital is a small veterinary practice in Indianapolis dedicated to exemplary veterinary medicine and patient care, healthy lifestyles, client education, and employee well-being.

Job Summary:

The Certified Veterinary Technician (Lead CVT) trains, supervises, and assists veterinary support staff to plan, coordinate, and perform a variety of duties concerning animal health and client education, and to promote greater efficiency by relieving veterinarians of technical work and administrative detail. This position also encompasses all the duties of the Veterinary Technician.

How you'll make an impact:

  • Maintain and uphold the core values and mission statement of MVP.
  • Perform all functions related to the Licensed Veterinary Technician job description.
  • Maintain inventory and maintenance of pharmaceuticals, equipment, and supplies.
  • Maintain knowledge of preventative healthcare recommendations to answer client questions, provide education on vaccines, flea, and heartworm products, and assist in marketing veterinary services.
  • Educate clients and team members on products and medications sold including dietary products and answer questions regarding product purchase/use.
  • Assist in all aspects of hospital performance which includes answering phones, scheduling appointments, client callbacks, and prescription requests.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Must be able to conduct oneself in a confident and professional manner with clients even when situations are stressful.
  • Ability to demonstrate patience and composure in stressful situations and handle a fast-paced environment.
  • Genuinely enjoys working with animals and can deal with them even when they are stressed, ill, or in pain.
  • Ability to stay calm and efficient during a medical crisis.
  • Ability to give SQ, IM, and IV injections.
  • Knowledge of usage, dosage, and common side-effects for commonly used prescription drugs.
  • Knowledge of common anesthesia and recovery states and the ability to alert veterinarians when symptoms change.
  • Knowledge of heartworm and external parasite preventatives to promote client education.
  • Ability to properly extubate, monitor temperature, and recover patients from anesthesia.
  • Ability to navigate practice management software.
  • Effective writing skills.
  • Computer knowledge is required; comfortable with Word, IOS, Windows, and practice management software.
  • Ability to meet deadlines and exceed expectations.
  • Strong communication, leadership, and motivational skills.
  • Knowledge of principles and processes for providing client and personal services.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Knowledge of English language structure and grammar.
  • Ability to work independently and accept direction on assignments.
  • Knowledge of procedures for receiving, treating, and scheduling patients.
  • Knowledge of the use, care, and storage of veterinary instruments and materials.
