Job summary

Texas A&M University College of Veterinary Medicine & Biomedical Sciences seeks a Veterinary Technician II to help veterinary students perfect clinical skills in a classroom-based Clinical Skills Lab. You will work in a team of technicians under veterinarians to train students in technical procedures and patient care.

This role emphasizes mentorship, instruction in anesthesia, surgery, and critical care, and collaboration with faculty and learners in a lab setting, located in College Station,

Qualifications

  • Associate degree in veterinary technology and two years of technical experience in veterinary medicine.
  • Experience involving student instruction and/or mentorship.
  • Experience teaching or in a learning environment.
  • Experience in a managerial role and/or lead tech role.
  • Graduate of an AVMA approved veterinary technician program.
  • Certification as a Licensed Veterinary Technician.
  • Certification as a Veterinary Technician Specialist (VTS) in Anesthesia, Internal Medicine, or Emergency / Critical Care.
  • Working knowledge of veterinary equipment used within a veterinary hospital.

Responsibilities

  • Clinical and Instructional: provide clinical support and instruction in anesthesia, surgery, and intensive care, while maintaining accurate medical records and preparing samples.
  • Equipment: ensure availability and proper functioning of equipment, maintain and operate monitoring devices, manage inventory and capital equipment.
  • Monitor and Record Data: instruct and assist students in maintaining anesthesia and medical records, document charges and controlled substances, assist with scheduling.
  • Training and Certification: stay current with safety classes and licensure requirements, maintain certification as appropriate.
  • Maintain Service Area: keep a clean, stocked, and organized lab space; ensure infection control and assist with other duties as needed.
