Job summary

UW Veterinary Care (UWVC) is seeking a dedicated Veterinary Technician Assistant to join our Float Team. This role supports veterinarians and technicians with patient care in our Hospital, blending animal care with collaboration with veterinary students and staff.

The position is full-time (40 hours/week) with a standard schedule from 8:30am to 5:00pm, Monday through Friday, in Madison, Wisconsin. Competitive benefits accompany this opportunity, with opportunities for growth in a teaching

Qualifications

• High school diploma required; associate degree preferred.
• Ability to lift 50 pounds independently.
• Physical and manual dexterity for technical tasks.
• Ability to follow written and verbal instructions accurately.

Responsibilities

• Maintains organization of and updates records related to medical procedures and billing.
• Inventories and organizes supplies.
• Serves as a point of contact for animal owners and stakeholders providing information and answering questions.
• Cleans and maintains organization of animal holding spaces, work areas and equipment.
• Documents and disseminates results to the appropriate entities.
• Assists with and executes the preparation, completion, and documentation of basic technical animal care procedures, assessments, and medication administration.
• Assists with routine laboratory tests and specimen collection according to established orders and care plans.

Key Job Responsibilities:

Compensation:

The starting hourly rate for the position is $19.00 (but is negotiable based on experience and qualifications).

Required Qualifications:

• Ability to lift a minimum of 50 pounds independently
• Physical and manual dexterity to perform specialized technical tasks
• Ability to follow written and verbal rules and instructions accurately

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience in veterinary hospital setting or referral practice
• Basic animal handling skills
• Knowledge of good client-relation principles
