Job summary

BluePearl Pet Hospital in Northfield, IL seeks an Anesthesia Veterinary Technician to join our fast-paced team. You will assist in anesthesia and analgesia, monitor patients, place IV catheters, and participate in perioperative care from pre-op to recovery.

Qualifications

Sign on Bonus up to 10K for qualified candidates

Pay $23.20 - $43.70/hour. This pay band is dependent on local veterinary licensing, experience, and advancement through our competency assessment tool.

• Weekday Night (Mon-Fri 6p to 8a): $4.00
• Weekend Day (Sat-Sun 8a to 6p): $4.00
• Weekend Night (Sat-Sun 6p to 8a): $5.50

Responsibilities

• Assist in patient procedures using knowledge of anesthesia and analgesia related protocols and procedures, including formulating anesthetic plans tailored to individual patient needs.
• Monitor anesthesia, troubleshoot anesthetic complications, and make appropriate interventions.
• Perform intravenous catheter placement, endotracheal intubation, and anesthetic equipment use and maintenance.
• Perform physical exam; accurately count heart, pulse rate, capillary refill time, mucous membranes, temperature, respiratory rate and effort.
• Understand normal vital parameters and alert doctor when abnormal.
• Set up intravenous fluids and CRI’s.
• Continuous expansion of knowledge and skillset: advanced anesthetic skills including epidurals, difficult airway intubation, and critical case management.
• Operate all brands of intravenous fluid pumps and can troubleshoot errors.
• Comfortable with medical math.
• Ability to take patient through entire procedure from start to finish (pre‑op, monitoring, post‑op, and recovery).
• Manage appointments, obtain histories, medical record keeping, invoicing, patient discharges, etc.
• Disconnect and connect patients from intravenous fluids aseptically.
• Monitor patient response to fluid therapy including signs of overload.
