Job summary

University at Buffalo is seeking a NYS-licensed veterinary technician to join the Laboratory Animal Facilities team. Prior laboratory animal experience is not required, and clinical skills from private practice are transferable.

You will learn to work with diverse species and travel between UB campuses (North, South, Downtown). The position involves a varied daily routine, with a Monday–Friday 8-hour shift and some shared weekend/holiday hours.

Qualifications

  • Two year degree in Veterinary Technology or equivalent is required.
  • Current New York State License is required.
  • Three years of experience in animal work in a non-residential setting is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Patient care for a variety of species.
  • Assist veterinarians with exams and diagnostic testing.
  • Maintain medical records and other related records.
  • Teach students in small hands-on classes (handling, injections, anesthesia).
  • Correspond with researchers via email.
  • Assist researchers with scheduled projects.

Position Summary

The Laboratory Animal Facilities at the University atBuffalo is is looking for a NYS licensed veterinary technician tojoin our team. Prior laboratory animal experience is not requiredfor this position, and clinical skills used in private practice aretranslatable. We will teach you to work with lots of new andinteresting species. You need a desire to learn new things and tobe comfortable working with a variety of animals, both large andsmall.

Like any veterinary technician position, this job can be physicallydemanding at times, and you will be on your feet a lot. Thedifference with this position is that every day is a littledifferent, and you won't be doing the same thing day in and dayout. The LAF has a presence on all 3 of UB's campuses (North,South, Downtown), so some travel between facilities is required.The regular work week is Monday-Friday, 8 hour shifts, with sharedweekend and holiday hours required. If you thrive in an environmentwhere you are part of a team and have readily available resources,but can work independently, this could be a good fit for you.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Candidates must have a two year degree in Veterinary Technologyor equivalent and a current New York State License
  • Candidates must have 3 years experience in animal work, in a non -residential setting.
Preferred Qualifications

Clinical experience in emergency, general practice, specialtypractice, exotics, lab animal, or similar.

Physical Demands

Must be able to move or transport up to 25 pounds and remain in a stationary position for periods of time.

Salary Range

$43,000 - $44,500
