Our ideal candidate has experience in animal care, client communication, and veterinary procedures, with a passion for improving the lives of pets and their owners.

What to Expect as a Veterinary Technician with Tenafly Veterinary Center

As you join our team, expect to be supported in your work and home life with:

  • All the benefits you deserve—medical, dental, vision, retirement—plus an employee pet discount because we know your pets are family, too.
  • Paid time off. Catch your breath with paid holidays, days of PTO, and other paid leave such as birthday off, mental health day, or sick leave. Take the time you need to recharge.

Schedule: Closing shifts on weekdays from 10:30 am to 7:30 pm, and Saturday from 8:00 am to 3:00 pm.

Key Responsibilities:
  1. Client Communication: Provide status updates for hospitalized patients, home care instructions, pre- and post-op instructions, and medication guidance. Address client questions confidently and refer complex inquiries to veterinarians.
  2. Client Education & Support: Educate clients on preventative medicine, wellness care by age, vaccine requirements, laboratory procedures, and support hospital financial policies by preparing estimates and discussing financial commitments.
  3. Customer Service: Greet clients, escort them and their pets into exam rooms, ensure smooth transitions to the front desk, and promote the practice’s products, programs, and services.
  4. Animal Handling & Care: Safely and compassionately restrain animals, assist veterinarians in procedures, prepare patients for surgery, administer anesthesia, monitor during surgery and recovery, and administer fluids.
  5. Facility & Equipment Maintenance: Properly care for surgical materials, maintain hospital equipment and inventory, and ensure cleanliness and readiness of all treatment areas.
  6. Record Keeping: Maintain accurate patient records in a paperless system, documenting procedures, vaccinations, and notes for billing.
  7. Pharmacy Assistance: Assist with dispensing medications, prepare prescription labels, and package medications appropriately.
  8. Safety & Technical Skills: Follow safety guidelines (DEA, OSHA), perform injections, laboratory tests, radiographs, ECGs, place IV catheters, and perform emergency treatments.
Qualifications:
  • At least 1 year of Veterinary Technician experience.
  • Ability to handle animals safely and compassionately.
