Tenafly Veterinary Center is hiring a full-time Veterinary Technician to provide skilled care to our patients and exceptional service to our clients. Schedule: Closing shifts on weekdays from 10:30 am to 7:30 pm, and Saturday from 8:00 am to 3:00 pm.
Key Responsibilities:
- Client Communication: Provide status updates for hospitalized patients, home care instructions, pre- and post-op instructions, and medication guidance. Address client questions confidently and refer complex inquiries to veterinarians.
- Client Education & Support: Educate clients on preventative medicine, wellness care by age, vaccine requirements, laboratory procedures, and support hospital financial policies by preparing estimates and discussing financial commitments.
- Customer Service: Greet clients, escort them and their pets into exam rooms, ensure smooth transitions to the front desk, and promote the practice’s products, programs, and services.
- Animal Handling & Care: Safely and compassionately restrain animals, assist veterinarians in procedures, prepare patients for surgery, administer anesthesia, monitor during surgery and recovery, and administer fluids.
- Facility & Equipment Maintenance: Properly care for surgical materials, maintain hospital equipment and inventory, and ensure cleanliness and readiness of all treatment areas.
- Record Keeping: Maintain accurate patient records in a paperless system, documenting procedures, vaccinations, and notes for billing.
- Pharmacy Assistance: Assist with dispensing medications, prepare prescription labels, and package medications appropriately.
- Safety & Technical Skills: Follow safety guidelines (DEA, OSHA), perform injections, laboratory tests, radiographs, ECGs, place IV catheters, and perform emergency treatments.
Qualifications:
- At least 1 year of Veterinary Technician experience.
- Ability to handle animals safely and compassionately.
- Knowledge of common disease states and ability to alert veterinarians to changes in patient condition.
- Familiarity with DEA, OSHA, and hospital safety guidelines.
